It’s hard to believe I’ve waited so long to make this video and originally I wanted to release it in January right after it had officially been 15 years since I began learning Kathak dance. As many of you may know, I’ve been learning Kathak or Indian Classical Dance for essentially my entire life and not only has it been a hobby and passion but also given me a loving community and ultimately shaped me into the person I am today. I wanted to take it upon myself to capture my journey and some highlights of my Kathak career from when I was a “lilliput” (brownie points if you know that reference) to where I am now. Especially after graduating, it becomes difficult finding space for this passion of mine within a busy schedule or pulling out ghungroo in the quiet, rubber-soled gyms of Seattle. But it really just takes a few minutes to glimpse over some of my most wonderful moments on the dance floor to realize that I’m happiest when my feet are aching, smiling under blinding lights.
In this video, I aimed to capture both my passion for dance as well as my love for video making and telling digital stories (a Kathaka is a storyteller after all!).
