This has to be The Best of Kristy Glass Knits! I learned so much. Those ladies are really inspiring and I was amazed at the story of how they got their mill to their building. I could just see Tattoo Bob and the brothers hefting that thing! Their yarn is beautiful, their mill is so clean. You looked so happy, Kristy, I am really pleased you get to do these trips for us!

Ok this was awesome. I was an early convert to Spincycle yarn - made my first hat from knit fast, dye young (love that it’s the MIA song, will forever sing it that way now). I’m literally knitting the shift owl as I watch, in one of the EYF kits that I set an alarm to snag. But here’s what I really love - I was almost feeling like the amazing Spinster ladies were just too cool, too gorgeous, too good of a story to be true. A little voice in my head was going so, are they like brand-perfect Instagram models who can’t even knit? (Sorry! Voice of cynicism!). I so loved seeing Rachel talk us through the dye room and Kate show us she is literally running, cleaning and repairing the heavy machinery. Sooooo great and inspiring. I’m back on board :)

Thoroughly enjoyed, well done Kristy! Definitely a micro mill I've worked the commercial ones and those machines are75-100 feet long, not an easy job. The humidity needs to be right for them to run properly (less breakouts). Definitely keep the air as clean as possible, white lung is an issue with mill workers as well as lung cancer for commercial dyers, some food for thought.

You can splice yarn by hand without liquid by separating the plies on each end and then removing 1/2 of the plies by gently tugging them out then laying both ends together and rubbing them quickly and tightly between your palms for a few seconds until your hands get really warm. Then look at the yarn and smooth it out by rubbing in the area it's not smooth....same result as that 2000.00USD splicer tool...and your hands come attached to you and you can carry them around everywhere. As long as the yarn is Non super wash you can do this. Even with other animal fibers. Not plant fibers though.
