  • @DaisyLee1963

It does seem shocking, but I can believe it. That doc insisting she stay away from his patients tells me her outlier behavior was probably widely discussed via the hospital grapevine, but actually doing anything about it big-time would be another story. The medical staff might consider it a risk to go public or even start a formal investigation. The situation's better nowadays in health care, but we're still slow to investigate/accuse co-workers of honest mistakes, let alone of nefarious actions. I'm not excusing it, but this unwillingness to face reality and accuse has to do with the high stakes involved in direct patient care.

this happens often with nurses who are killers. their coworkers become suspicious but are reluctant to do anything about it. Where I live there was a nurse with a high death count and the hospital even fired him because of it, but still gave him a good job reference so he continued to kill in another hospital.

A relationship with a BPD is a hell of an emotionnal ride, always going back and forth, hot and cold, reversing guilt and a double dose of emotionnal abuse, a shitload of lies and manipulation. All for the sake of the BPD person to avoid abandonment. Doesn't make any sense if not seing from their perspective, but that's how it is, and the very reason they carry a train wreck of relationships is because they can't, at least without serious therapy, see anything but there perspective. That being said, as much as I firmly believe that a partner to a BPD is a victim, and in most cases requires therapy after the abuse, a long term relationship with a BPD implies a codependancy. In other words, it takes a high vulnerability and a typically low self esteem, often combined with an empathy out of control, to stay for long and go as far as having children with a BPD. Anyone can fall for the sex and dating trap, especially because this personnality disorder often goes with quite interesting and creative aspects that makes the person attractive to a lot. As well as the " crazy girl " energy, to use a trivial yet commonly shared intuition. But not everyone will fall for a long term relationship, with such a chaotic mind. Takes two to tango. Ps : men have it too, I'm just less familiar with their behaviors and if they differ from a women with bpd in any aspect.

Oh sure when I first got sick at 15 or 16, I did exhibit the behaviors but I was never physically violent. I just screamed at my friends but most of them were narcissists who just laughed at me anyway. But people with BPD feel every emotion intensely. From what I can remember - even though Massachusetts doesn’t have the death penalty, the veterans hospital was on federal property, so she would’ve been eligible for the death penalty. However, I think her lawyers or the jury argued that her children were very young and should’ve been given the opportunity when they are older, to ask her why she did what she did and it was granted.

You should do cases of men with BPD. Why they don’t diagnose men more often? I’ve met men in psychiatry with this. Men get PTSD diagnose instead, which is less stigmatized, although it is a trauma disorder just like BPD, similar characteristics.

I married someone with BPD in the 90’s. He got violent with material items (throwing things, slashing tires on my car, etc - all because he “loved” me so much) He never hit me though. I left after two years knowing that because, in his mind, nothing was ever his fault, the situation was just going to get progressively worse until he would eventually kill me. He was very manipulative also, tricked my whole family into believing what a “great guy” he was and that I was the mean/cold/cruel one for leaving him. 20 years later, we all found out he ‘s in prison for murdering a woman that he “loved” because the relationship broke up after a couple of months. Also found out another lover of his died by “suicide”. Mental illness and violence don’t mix well.

I’ve been an RN for 30 years. This is disgusting! I realize why it took so long to figure her killing out. Nurses much like police officers tend to protect each other. Until it becomes outrageous. Also when nurses report on each other the reporting nurse is treated badly because management doesn’t want to deal with the offender. Nursing has become a HORRIBLE profession. I’ve seen it negatively change over time. It’s completely finance based. Patient care falls way down the list. I’m so upset about where nursing has gone. I can’t wait to get out!!!!

@@sselassie3126 the psych evals and tests are, in truth, looking more for the personality disorders than, say, depression or OCD. They also look into any felony convictions. It's done not just for patient safety, but to protect the school from lawsuits if a student or former student does harm to a patient. You are correct that psych evals and the MMPI can be manipulated. Believe me, I had to deal with several RN's and MD's whose personality disorders took years to be recognized. Patients were harmed because a clinician was just having a bad day and they had to blame or take their anger out on someone; often, the most vulnerable patients paid the price. I was stunned to discover that not even an MMPI was mandatory prior to acceptance at several nursing or medical schools in the US. I am still smh at this, and similar, cases. I don't have any answers to the problem; I wish that I (or anyone) had some.
