Kris Carr's Inspiring Path through Stage 4 Cancer, Grief, and Emotional Healing

Hey Heal Squad, this is a must-episode to tune into for you or anyone you know suffering from disease, particularly cancer. Over 15 years ago, Kris Carr discovered she had over 20 tumors and stage four cancer. If you know anything about cancer, you know there is no stage five. Yet, Kris is still here with us to share her healing journey, which I hope can be yours. Kris struggled with issues of perfectionism, shame, control and a host of other emotions familiar to many of us, which she, without coincidence, learned how to manage. In this second part, we focus more on grief as Kris, on top of her cancer, had to deal with a terminally ill father, financial pressures, the pandemic and more. Kris soon realized how much we all grieve in this lifetime, whether it's a cheating spouse, a miscarriage, a death or even a life transition. As I said after part one, Kris offered so much that I've already invited her back.
Ruptures such as sickness, divorce, miscarriage, death: How do we navigate emotions when bad things happen.
You don't think life can get stormier but it does: Dad is diagnosed with terminal cancer, the pandemic hits and it's year 20 of cancer with new financial strains to boot.
When the grief train arrives, in come all the cars: talk therapy and even medications help.
Grief and love go hand in hand: living and awakening happened when Dad was dying.
Becoming more emotionally literate: emotions are parts of ourselves that lead us to places in our souls that are crying for healing.
Rehearsing conversations in grief: Kris surrenders control, stops trying to run and opens up to her father after a few conversations in the mirror.
Anticipatory grief: it happens long before the loss and helps you cope during and after.
Our emotions are information: guilt is saying I did something wrong, and shame says I am wrong.
Do not cut out emotions: we can't amputate our emotions and expect to be whole.
Bring awareness, curiosity and compassion to whatever emotion triggers you to unlock and relieve.
Changing the channel: sometimes, we just need to change the channel when melting down because we are out of alignment with who we are.
Being a good parent to ourselves, finding ways to let ourselves off the hook
Finding joy and happiness without costing anything - smelling flowers or playing with your dog is another way to 'change the channel.'
Being in 'what I want mode': shift your mindset to what you want more of to prevent dark thoughts from coming in as a mental fitness exercise.
Simple healthy practices: easiest to apply and stick to.
Feeding your joy brings more goodness into your life.
The anti-inflammatory life path: Kris shares her simple-to-follow practices, encouraging others to create and implement their own practices.
Protecting psychic energy: For those who are empathetic, you are easily sucked in to lose energy and thus erode our sense of joy, freedom and well-being. Be thoughtful of how much we allow and take in.
Do not be glued to a diagnosis: many of us are taught to do so, which is limiting.
