Krav Maga Training vs Reality part one Knife threat from behind

Krav Maga Training vs Reality by Michael Rüppel
First there will be three videos:
1 Knife threat from behind (Hostage situation)
2 Firearms threat in the back
3 Firearms threat on the side of the head
Others will follow.
I chose these three, Why ? Because for many Krav Maga it's just a business, they do not care what they show you for a technique.
But I a real situation, you would pay for it with a very high price, your life.
If you see these videos, and you open minded then you will understand it.

I truly admire this Krav Maga instructor . Normally krav Maga when viewed is simply Japanese Jiu Jitsu but this instructor has an open mind and is creative and goes with the time. A very GOOD video indeed. Osu!

Depends where they place the other hand. Also this happens REALLY FAST so it is unlikely.

The Element of surprise comes from two main sources one the attacker knows you would be a bloody fool to try anything after all he has all the Power an d the speed and power you can put into your technique

Vielen Dank! VG Jörg

When one does not have an open mind, one can not survive. Thinking "inside" the box will get you 6 feet under in a box. Think "Outside" the box, have an open mind ... that are the first rules to survive the pavement arena. Train smart and survive.

Thanks a lot for the techniques and the demos, but there's just one small problem, what if they get to that position of disadvantage and then they grab the knife with the other hand? 🤔

Even that the risk of both parties falling, would walking back into ones opponent not sufficiently disrupt the knifepoint attack, re-enabling escape?

  • @headlessnotahorseman

    1) Your criticism seems to be based on the idea that the defender will control the knife and then just pause for a while and let the attacker respond. It's a fast dynamic defense that doesn't stop. Maybe you've seen people incorrectly teach it as if it was 2 or 3 distinct steps, really it is one fast flow. 2) I can't see how effective those stabs are going to be. 1-2cm deep at best and have to go through clothes. Unless it is s really long knife but then who would hold a long knife with the point so close to themselves. The machine makes a noise but that doesn't mean the attacker is incapacitated. What if knife guy starts punching defender in the face, pushes defender away with the free hand, or just throws defender to the ground? Knife guy might get cut up a bit, maybe even seriously, but defender is still vulnerable and will probably get seriously stabbed. Especially if it goes to the ground. 3) This seems to assume the knife threat is only going to be with the hand all the way across the neck and the knife is at a 90° angle to the attacker's body. What if the knife is not so far around? Only say 45°, or even straight across the neck? In your solution that will result in a weak control and the knife very very close to the neck. That method of trying to stab the attacker will be impossible.

But even you dont consider the absolute storm of punches the other hand is throwing straight into your face as soon as you grab the hand

Usually we groin attack simultaneously while doing the grabbing of the arm and controlling the knife. this is kinda like an assurance that he can't resist this also releases his grip. good points in this video tho. but i recommend the attack. ALWAYS ATTACK before a lock. the reason people think this system is garbage is because they don't feel the pain or think its real/ what they see seems pretty gimmicky. i see alot of instructors skip the attacking and teach only the lock, this will get u in a tricky position or killed (if ur lucky). im not saying its a perfect system, but its better than nothing. attacking and using ur fists is fine. beat the shit out of him he deserves it. you don't always need to disarm him. attacks are fine. your body is a better weapon than any knife or gun. as the marines say- ONE MIND ANY WEAPON.

I really like the modern Krav Maga techniques by Mr Michael Rüppel who is a great instructor but here it is not fair in this case to decry the traditional knife threat Krav Maga technique because the defense you decry is NOT the right one. It is a threat with the knife on the SIDE of the neck and the technique you use is the defense against a threat with the knife parallel to the soil.
