    Just did this today to my friend who came from behind and locked me in a full nelson from behind. Never even practiced it before and never thought it will be useful in real life but it did and after he fell down I immediately got on top and blocked his hands. We bought weigh about the same (~145 pounds) but he is taller than me.

    haha! literally just watched that episode then searched this after raditz and goku died. I 've been put in this position a few times before, and in my experience the person will straighten out their arms, increasing distance, while subsequently raising your arms up, which makes this defence impossible other than by strength and brute force.

    The full nelson is a very useful technique. If you're on the street fighting and you manage to get your attacker into the FN, pick him up off the ground and swing his head into the nearest concrete wall---game over. Trust me

    I always wondered what would happen if you did it to someone then I tried it on this guy acting a fool in a bar I was in. Only I took him to the wall twice but not swinging with all I had. I thought I had killed the guy. So if you do it, only do it once and DO NOT put everything you've got into the swing or you'll kill him dead as hell.

    Yeah, this is straight out of the standard Hapkido playbook, I had to learn the same move on my way to BB, and I don't agree with it, 1. no one 'attacks' you by putting you in a full nelson, 2. no one is going to just stand there and let you grab his legs as you neatly step aside, he's going to counter immediately (half a dozen counters come to mind) and 3. no one in their right mind would attack this dude! :) He looks like a badass and probably has many more effective moves than this one, probably not representative of his instruction. Just don't agree with it.

    There are always counters to a move, if you want to know whether this is a viable move, a wrestler would be the best to ask.

  • @FrancisMaxino

    My Dad is built like a bear and was also a wrestler. He showed me the simplest and easiest way to slip out of this hold. If you are in a standing position, relax, do not lean forward like he demonstrates but merely raise your arms straight up and drop straight down really quickly, the full Nelson is a far more effective hold if you have them face down on the floor, the same raise your arms technique still works as a counter but requires much more strength and effort if they are really heavy and it is easier to slip out of if you can get up onto your knees. This is the standard wrestler approach.

  • @FrancisMaxino

    @FrancisMaxino

    The full nelson would be done by a wrestler, you know Greek style, the standard counter is just raise your arms and drop...you slip out fast and do whatever...if you hit them in the nuts with the back of the heel they might get more angry tighten their grap and faceplant you still in the hold....just thoughts....

    Guys im ex military us navy and krav maga is at the top of the totem pole as far as fighting styles, its self defense in its purest form and that is to not stop attackers by twisting their wrist its stopping your attacker with lethal force, and with great power comes great responsibility you wouldn't use this on the guy that cut you off or took your parking spot but the guy whos trying to rob you or hurting your family or an innocent person will work on anyone heavy set or light as a feather if done correctly it works!

    I agree in a way, my dad was in sas and said to me that there is no top of the food chain when it comes to martial arts or self defence, its not what you no but how you use it and most important how you aply it to the situation you're in, he also says that if anyone try's to say that because it's taught to the army it's got to be the best tell them bullshit, hand to hand combat is the least important aspect to army combat, even for him and his unit relied on stealth to complete operations. But like I said I do agree that some arts are more combative than others.

    Owin Hernandez they are pretty similar in style. They are just a collection of the most deadly and easy to learn moves, but that doesnt mean they are more deadly then others it just means they only thought about killing when they put the collection together. Also as I tell my students they are both made for solider's who are big strong men who have excellent fitness, soif you're not that fit or strong you might struggle, im not saying one's better than another I would suggest giving it ago and see how you get on
