    I love how much they respect the writing of old Kratos, not as a crazy killing machine but as a former general doing what he thought was right and eventually down the line letting his greif, pain, and lust for revenge cause the very same death and destruction to others as it did him.

    He felt his vengeance was an ends justifying the means sort of deal. He merely got lost in transit when innocence was muddled with his path while justifying his end goal of stopping the greek gods from ruining the lives of people for eternity, consequences be damned for making their curse seem like a blessing of the natural order not being from the universe, but the will of gods that shared no empathy, no sympathy, not even compassion for the consequences of their actions, much like Kratos.

    I really appreciate how Tyr comforts Kratos at the end. He made what seemed to be the best decision available to him at the time. Whether it was foolish or not in the long run is irrelevant, as in that moment he couldn't have possibly known, so he cannot be held at fault for it

    It really was his only choice. He could either die and let Sparta die with it or win with the only option he had. Kratos obviously wasn't a bad general, if he lost a battle, I doubt he had many other options. I don't even know if I could call it foolish, I'd say it was the smartest choice if you value your people and were in that position.

  • @joshuashaw8752

    Uh, Tyr literally says the exercise is not about forgiveness or fault. Kratos still has to hold himself at fault, just not more so than he actually is at fault. It's not about excusing himself it's about understanding that his role going forward can change for the better and he is not limited to the mistakes of the past. What is the point of growing from experience if you remove all moral culpability on the basis of ignorance? He absolutely can be held at fault, but he is choosing to not allow his guilt to excuse him from responsibility.

Smart move from Hermes in particular with 2 broken legs and crawling away, only to taunt Kratos. Helios used his sun powers to try and blind or cook Kratos, forcing him to end it by ripping his head off. It’s not about pretending the past didn’t exist or shy away from it, but embracing it and finding new purpose for them, the Blades are essentially a big metaphor for Kratos redemption arc

The hardest scene for me is he finally rejoins with his daughter... and has to risk never seeing her again to kill persephone in order to stop her from destroying the Greek version of heaven . You have to button mash like Kratos really strains himself to push away his daughter as she's begging him to not leave, she also never knew he killed her .. legit cried not gonna lie

Sigrun and the others were killed in 2018's game wouldn't that mean they've died before since they're in new bodies after Freya restored them. I could be misremembering but I feel like that would count

    I do not understand why Kratos claims Helios' death was an unjust one. Kratos was attacked by Helios. He gave Helios the opportunity to give information and live, but, he lied after being beaten. Helios then still tried to kill Kratos. He had no choice. Maybe Kratos intends to say that his entire path of revenge against the gods was unjust? But, Zeus forced him into that too by literally destroying sparta and deciding to have Kratos tortured in the Underworld once he was dead.

    Pretty sure he's a manifestation of Kratos guilt. All the sassy nastiness he spits out through the DLC are I think more meant to be what Kratos actually thinks of himself and his past actions rather than some external manifestation of Valhalla. Kinda confirms it for me when they are talking about Pandora's box and Helios actively calls out Kratos for trusting Athena and saying he didn't know it would make the gods the worst versions of themselves. Modern Kratos almost certainly does think past Kratos is a fool for trusting Athena. And even past Kratos probably knew she wasn't that trustworthy. He was just so focused on killing Ares he didn't care. It also explains why the Helios head always disappears upon reaching Tyr, as Tyr is actively trying to help Kratos move past the way he views himself as externalised by the manifestation of Helios.

    I think this was a missed oportunity to explain how the cage was supposed to be set on fire with really no need for the living sacrifice, it could have gave the idea that cruelty and madness weren't the result of an unjust world but rather they come from the very people's nature, that in reality they are the ones creating the hell they so rightiously wish to escape. It would have made the message of doing better all the more deep and powerful. Though i remember how the first game was and i don't actually think this could have worked but it was the first thing i thought watching this and i needed to say it.

  • @amberanime

    @amberanime

    I mean both are linked. An Unjust world creates more unjust, angry, mad and cruel people. Or it brings out the worst in us. Maybe we all have the ability to be the worst, as well as the best of us. But that doesnt mean an unjust world is NOT to blame. If you hit a dog with a stick enough times, can you blame the dog for getting angry and trying to bite? The dog always had it in it's nature to be able to be agressive. It was always in there, but that doesnt mean the dog was doomed to be agressive. The way it was treated def played a role. Most cruelty done by humans comes from being part of an unjust and cruel world. Most humans dont do horrible things just because there is a capability for it in their system. It is triggerd. Sole exceptions are psychopaths who have a form of mental Illness. Long story short, people's natures can vary greatly from one person to another, but on average even though our natures carry with us the potential to be horrid, it is not the default state. Most times people are cruel without any form of mental illness present, it's because of what happend to them, to their loved ones, to their homes etc. Nature vs nurture. Our cruelty is not in our nature, only the potential for cruelty is in our nature. The Nurture is what it draws it out most of the time. Altough some people never become cruel, and others become cruel at the smallest amounts of suffering. We are not all wired the same way.
