Welcome to the world of Symphonic Black Metal. The band, Dimmu Borgir, which means Dark Fortress in Icelandic, if memory serves, is a Symphonic Black Metal band. They don't ordinarily play with a full orchestra, they use keyboards instead, and they also used to have a bassist that sang the upper octave parts, but now they have to use female singers. But as you can see here with the full orchestra, it blends well with the heavy metal parts. Metallica tried something like this back in '99 with the album S & M (Symphony & Metal), and it just didn't work as well with the Thrash Metal rhythms, but it works quite well with Black Metal for some reason. That said, I only listen to a handful of death/black metal bands, and Dimmu Borgir is one of them, because there's enough melody in their songs that keep me interested. Other bands like this are Children of Bodom, Norther, Amon Amarth, and Death.

Woah, I'm kinda early for the first time. I will always remember how Dimmu Borgir turned into my first extreme metal band ever back in the end of 2018. At first, I just listened to it and it was pretty ok (esp. the growls - I had gotten used to listening to them, but I was just appreciating them, not actually loving them) but I gradually got used to it more and more. You say you loved the female part? Well, a sad thing I'm gonna tell you is that she was in there just for this song, a one-time thing. Buuuut, in a lot of songs, they used to have ICS Vortex who supplied some of the best tenor vocals I have ever heard. Magnificent. I recommend hearing out The Serpentine Offering (even if not for a reaction video, just for yourself)

@@GiddyKitty Npnp, you're welcome ❤️ Well, it's not like she can permanently join them, sadly... it was a one-time collaboration because she has her own band called Djerv (and their stye pretty unique ngl - a mix of hard rock/heavy metal and black metal imagery (not much growl vocals from the couple songs I heard by them)). But yeah, I loved this variety Vortex gave for a lot of albums and her contribution here... if it wasn't for them, I probably wouldn't have gotten through the barrier and get into extreme metal.

all song is english The core principle of freedom Is the only notion to obey The formula of evolution and sin Leading the way The rebirth is near completion As we slowly awaken from slumber As we slowly awaken from slumber The malpractice of the spirit ends Gateways! When the gift is once again attained Gateways! No rules or restraints are longer valid Gateways! When the ancient future is reclaimed Gateways! No rules or restraints are longer valid Gateways! When the ancient future is reclaimed Gateways! It's all there for the eye that can see The blind ones will always suffer in secrecy For it is the omen Of what lies submerged Untouched within us The core principle of freedom Is the only notion to obey The formulae of evolution and sin Leading the way The rebirth is near completion As we slowly awaken from slumber To receive the light that shines in darkness The light that shines forevermore Forevermore!
