    Drugs are still illegal in Portugal. They've just been decriminalized to fines and/or counseling. Drugs aren't even legal in the Netherlands - it's just tolerated. Weed is legal in Canada, and the entire west coast of the United States (and a few other states). You can now drive from Alaska to the Mexican border and get legal weed the entire way.

    I would say it does mean any food, in any type of container, brought home from a restaurant. Taking leftovers home from a restaurant used to be seen as kind of low class, so the "doggie bag" term was invented so you could at least pretend the food was for your dog. It's kind of like asking a celebrity for an autograph for your kid, knowing full well you're keeping it for yourself.

    peachcakes Tobacco ads were quite common in print media until the late 90s. Newport and Marlboro has pretty significant billboard campaigns up until that time, too. I don’t think print advertising was ever made illegal, exactly, but the major tobacco manufacturers settled a major class action lawsuit with a agreement that included an agreement to cut back on their marketing pretty severely. But after the tv ads were made illegal, big tobacco put a LOT of money into really aggressive print campaigns to compensate. They would do these splashy ads that were designed to catch the eye of kids as well as adults, like a cartoon mascot for Camel or elaborate, silly stories suggested in the Virginia Slims magazine ads.

    @mr.osclasses5054

    4 жыл бұрын

    That is something that is near impossible to enforce as depending on the country, there might be a similar or harsher law for it. If you commit murder somewhere, you're getting arrested and tried for it. However, smoking weed, though illegal in most of the U.S. still, happens all over the place and isn't really enforced unless they think you're a dealer or large-volume smuggler of it. That being said, you can have THC or whatever it is...the traceable chemical in weed...in your system for several days to a couple weeks after smoking it, so if they went home and were suspected of it, they could be tested and then have issues if it was positive. Still, it is super tough to enforce that type of thing. I went on a trip a couple years ago to Europe where the age to drink is 18 basically everywhere, if not even younger, and there was no hint that the students could get in trouble with the law back here for drinking. The professors were required, if they saw an underage student drinking, to put them on the next plane home for violating the rules put forth by the school, but they couldn't be prosecuted for it since it was technically legal there. I don't know of any who wanted to have more than 1-2 with a meal because they didn't want to be messed up the next morning when we typically had to be up by 6 for whatever we were doing for the day. So we would just be discrete about it since we were rarely in a huge group together. They'd put the drink in front of one of the people of age and not touch it if one of the professors was in view, which was rare.

It’s just cuz growing up I didn’t eat much meat outside of steak and chicken but even that was on rare occasions and once I finished going through puberty something weird happened with my body and it’s reaction to meat being consumed and I will get/feel really sick if I eat any meat now. I just wasn’t exposed to it as much growing up and once I couldn’t really eat it anymore it was easy to just cut it out entirely and the effects I got - not feeling sick, less acne, and not supporting the meat industry - were kinda just a bonus and some of the main reasons now why I probably won’t go back or try to reintroduce it back into my diet 🤷

    4 жыл бұрын

    The word "fraternal" literally means brotherhood or sisterhood. Basically describing siblings, that's why if one sibling kills another it is called "fratricide" as the technical term. ANYWAY, the purpose is to promote scholarship (achieving the highest grades possible, not free money like how many figure it) among young men and women in colleges and universities. Sometimes, the fraternity (frat for short) or sorority would buy a house on or near the campus of the school for their members to live in together to help promote that scholarship. However, many of them took to being party groups and started doing things like hazing (making people who wanted to join go through a time period of stupid tasks or dares to see if they "qualified" to join...not something those running the frat or sorority wanted, but allowed, if they knew at all). There are some very good fraternities and sororities out there. I am part of two different ones: one for achieving a high academic grades in my history classes, and one for doing the same in my education classes. Most times it means nothing because it was just something you did in college, but sometimes it could lead to better connections for jobs or getting involved in different things you're pursuing.

  • @lorenac.7068

    @lorenac.7068

    Being active in a sorority I can help answer that. I'm also active in an honor fraternity (which was originally only for men, since women were not recognized for scholastic achievement in university studies before, but is now co-ed). Sororities and fraternities are social organizations. We each have our own sisterhood/brotherhood which we call a "chapter". We are reffered to as "Greek Life" as our chapter names consist of 2-3 greek characters, such as Alpha Pi Phi (just as an example). There are stereotypes about partying and bullying (which can be referred to as hazing). Due to previous generations hazing new members, we can not only get in trouble with the University but also with the National chapter and can possibly be removed as a chapter from the University, so hazing is a big "no no" as we've been taught. We also can't be affiliated with alcohol or drugs even on social media. What we do is organize events for our philanthropies (we each have a unique philanthropy for the chapters), take part in community service, and network with alumni. We also have study sessions, weekly meetings, and sisterhoods (fun social gatherings/outings with sisters). We also have a mentor system in which an older member, "A Big" sister, will mentor a new member, reffered to as "A Little", which builds onto a greek family, as that older member has their own Big and so on. An honor fraternity is different than a social fraternity or sorority in that it is not as social and focuses solely on scholastic achievement. Of course there is a social aspect to it as networking is a social activity, but it is not as robust. Both are great ways to make friends and build connections. Hope this helps.

The city collects our kitchen waste (also yard waste, clippings from grass, dead leaves, things like that) and they take it to be composted. We have a garbage disposal in our kitchen sink, but we don't use it. Some people in other parts of the US make compost in their back yards, and other cities might compost as well. 'Doggie bag' is a phrase that has evolved use over time. It seems it may have started during world war II as a pretense that they are 'taking food home for their dogs' but it was during a time when food was more scarce so they likely ate it themselves. it was much more popular to use 15-25 years ago, but only in casual dining, and often in places like diners when eating with young children. I remember hearing my mom say "can I get a doggy bag for this" as a kid now she would say "can I get this (and point to the dishes we want if we don't want all) packaged up to go" or she would ask "can we get some containers for this (sometimes if it is a burger and fries or something similar they literally give you a container and you pack it up yourself). here it would be quite rare for people to give many resturant leftovers to pets as many of the ingredients can be unhealthy for pets.

    They should check out an old episode of Seinfeld called "The Apology". Kramer decides he enjoys showers so much that he is going to spend most of his time in his shower, even going as far as to buy a waterproof phone, prepare a dinner there and install a garbage disposal in his bathtub drain.

    Oklahoma is slowly getting around, and I have a dispensary card! Both smoking and edibles. :P From experience at age 18; I has having a hard time in high school I couldn't stop crying over some heavy drama that happened for 5 hours. I used to be against mariguana but I heard positive things and I wanted the feeling to stop. I'm 22 now. So now I dont suffer from depression, anxiety, and the need to vomit out my food anymore. Weed is not for everyone! People can even be allergic to them too.

    It may be, but in a lot of countries outside the U.S. it is EXTREMELY hard to find. I have been to a large portion of Europe and a couple people I traveled with were vegetarian or vegan, and it was difficult for them in a place like Poland or even Germany to find something to eat that wasn't just a salad. It is spreading everywhere, but it is a very slow spread outside the U.S. and maybe the U.K. Even in the U.K. it was a bit tough for them, now that I think of it. Most countries don't have our "problems" of overeating, huge portion sizes, etc. They also walk or bicycle a lot more, so the need to have that stuff as a healthier option isn't there. There are some who do it just because of the animal issue, but that hasn't caught on like it has here as the impetus for being vegetarian or vegan. Most just say "eat sensibly and walk/bike" and you'll be fine.

    Someone definitely needs to clarify that weed is most definitely illegal in the majority of states in the US, and POC; particularly black and others get heavily prosecuted. I just want them to be safe if they come here, and understanding some American culture so they are misguided I guess

  • @juansierra5704

    Nobody is heavily prosecuted for recreational marijuana use. It's the people who have so much that they're obviiusly selling or illegally transporting it who can get crazy strong sentences. I just read an article about how minorities are more often arrested than whites were in NYC, and the assumptions is made that cops are racially profiling. But data showed that more black people are arrested for selling weed because they tend to sell it in black neighborhoods, and residents of black neighborhoods more often call the police to report drug dealing in their neighborhoods. They're doing more reporting.

    @@juansierra5704 That isn't true, HIGHLY depends on the state. For example, Wisconsin is back in the stone ages when it comes to weed laws, a simple possession charge of any amount is an automatic misdemeanor with up to 6 months in jail for first offense. Second offense (of any amount) is an automatic felony. Any delivery of weed (even bringing your buddy a gram) is an automatic felony. There are other states like this too.

The compost the council makes from it is really good too, I buy a trailer load every so often.
