that's called being "Chill" . It's normal in the U.S. It just means someone is calm and nothing bothers them easily or get's them exited easily. Usually a Chill person doesn't judge others and people like to be around them because of it. They are usually more comfortable in different situations since nothing bothers them as much. Laid back and relaxed most of the time.

xuimod What?! I currently live in Manhattan (been here over two years - I’m originally from southeast Michigan) and I absolutely love it. I feel much safer here than I ever did in Michigan. And, like every other department that depends on taxpayer money - the NYPD had budget cuts due to the coronavirus. They were not “defunded” (though “defund” does not mean “abolish,” just an FYI). Also, I live in the UES, and routinely travel to FiDi, Soho, Midtown, the Lower East Side, etc. - and I don’t see any of this “garbage piling up” you speak of? Maybe in another borough - but Manhattan is still quite safe and clean.

When I came to Korea, my relatives thought I spoke no Korean and I ate "bbang" and pizza everyday back in the States.

Americans aren't trying to 'look cool' like its a stylistic or cultural preference its a byproduct of the confidence needed to deal with life in a society that has become increasingly individualistic and therefore difficult so the strong ones that come out the other end scarred and wiser do often have a certain cool factor i guess. i mean unless you're crippled with debt and untreated medical conditions. but yeah your character has to be able to stand on its' own. if you come across as fake or exaggerated you're going to get called out on it. the individualism elevates the significance of the bonds that are strong enough to withstand it so being fake is like putting up emotional walls and barriers. fine if you're with a stranger, but it could kill important relationships otherwise. but anyways, back to stargazing for me. cheers.

It always depends. I have an Asian friend from India. He's a 2nd gen (his parents are from India), and he is the most American dude of all time. No accent, save for a few words that he constantly mispronounces (I make fun of him for it all the time). He doesn't know Tamil (the language his parents speak), and he doesn't really like Indian food. If the parents choose to Americanize their children for the sake of assimilation, then it's up to them! Some families are very strong in their culture that they don't want to lose it, so they make a big deal out of speaking their home language all the time.

In the US it's not ok to sit like that when you first meet. If you're surounded by strangers, some men do it but even those men are expected to sit up straight, close their legs to like, shoulder width while their talking to someone new. If you meet an American and they don't change their body language when they first meet you, that's a red flag. Recognize it and don't give them any of your quality time. Chris is being hella weird

@@Vi-ok8of I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. As an American, I've met so many people who just have different social and cultural cues when meeting people and no matter how different, there's no malice in someone expressing themselves naturally to you when meeting. Some people were raised with really strict parents, some were raised nonchalantly. In places like America where culture isn't the same from person to person, you need to expect people who are different than you and generally we're just more open and liberated when it comes to self expression. I don't think it's a "red flag" when someone acts the way the people in this video were acting, it just means you're not used to seeing it in your everyday life.

True, I met and had a random conversation with an old lady at the pet store about our pets. No honorifics or difference from how I would talk to my own grandmother or friend. The most reservation I hold is towards my dad (I won’t cuss around him) or my boss, but that’s about it. When I meet new family I’m very affectionate and hug them whether it’s a little cousin or an older in-law. It’s wild to think as an American about having to act and talk differently in a hierarchical way regardless of time/kinship with an individual. For them it’s probably as natural as breathing because they live immersed in that society, but for me it would feel cold.

Silence Is Better Than Nonsense gay people in Asia get married to the opposite sex all the time-the family pressure to do so is so much greater than in the west, especially to have children in a “normal” household. That’s why legalization of gay marriage in Taiwan was so hard-fought and a very big deal in the region.
