I think understand ollie. I mean the onowledge is there. It's just like sam said. Stacks of tetris bits but have no idea how to arrange them. I am so much like ollie. The good thing is ollie is way better than me. Now i feel like i need to study harder.. so hard. It is so hard.. 😓😭

This! I've noticed that too! My mother tongue is Indonesian and English my second, I notice I speak in a lower pitch when using English. I find it amusing when I hear my fave Kpop artist speaking in English in a much lower tone than when they do Korean. Funny how things work, huh.

penguin 0912 Exactly! However, while Josh does a good job at teaching him, there is more to being a successful teacher than just knowing the content. I think he should consider going to an actual korean class, as the teacher will know korean and how to teach it.

It's not that he's asking irrelevant questions... It's just that through the series (Korean speakers losing their cool teaching Ollie Korean), I suspect it has to do with the fact that this is entertainment after all, he tends to be sidetracked real quick and that frustrates the teacher (after 3-4 attempts), but again that's why people love these lessons.

올리 한국어 가르쳐준 사람들 중에 올리 마음을 제일 잘 알아주고 공감해준 사람같아 한국어 잘 가르쳐준거같음 화내지 않고 차분하게 공감해주면서 가르쳐주는거 아빠라서 가능한 걸까..? 좀 뭔가 포용심? 이해심이 넓어보인다 랄까 ?? 테트리스에 비유해서 말하는거나 뭐 그런걸 보면 한국어 배울때 이사람도 얼마나 힘들었는지 경험해 봤으니까 할수있는 말같고 지금처럼 자연스럽게 한국어 패치 되기까지 열심히 공부한거같음 👍🏻

Yeah, he probably had to teach William the Korean alphabet in the same way and had William mix Korean in odd ways like how children talk.

Honestly, I can understand why he struggles a lot in learning the language. Ollie did mention he has dyslexia, and that has definitely made learning korean not easy for him. But I admire his courage to overcome his own weakness, and not letting it stop him from doing it. I relate to it so much cause I struggle with it myself. Thank you for being an encouragement to many learners out there and also for having such a good laugh about it all.

올리의 상태를 정확하게 파악한 해밍턴씨 대단한데요! 저도 왜그런지 몰랐는데 정말 딱 저거네요.. 올리 힘내요!!

Ollie is stacking up a lot of vocab fairly well. A little more work on his memory and diction plus grammar and he's all set for a conversation level Korean. Suddenly, I feel like the end of the Jolly Korean lesson time is in the horizon and I'm not ready for it honestly, haha I enjoy learning with Ollie. All the best, Josh, Ollie and friends!

Honestly, Olly's circumstances are quite unique. Usually, when one learns a second language, they learn words in the second language and the translation/the word in their first language simultaneously. In his circumstance, he's constantly bombarded with vocabulary from his work as an editor, and these words embed themselves in his mind without any actual meaning which makes it harder to attach meaning to due to how they were introduced. Even for those who are born as bilingual or polyglots, they may not have a direct translation in their head, but they understand the inherent meaning of the word themselves. Contrary to all the jokes on how Olly's an idiot, I think he's quite smart for making as much progress as he has, especially since he's past the prime period for language learning.

I am so used to hearing sam talk in Korean... it's almost weird to hear him with an Australian accent hahahaha

샘이 애기 아빠여서인지 뭔가 더 침착하고 차분하게 올리한테 설명해주는것 같아요. 올리 반응을보고 어떻게 사고하는지도 딱 알고, 샘과 올리가 캐미가 잘 맞네요 ㅎㅎ 조쉬랑하는 수업은 너무 재밌는데 둘다 같이 가끔 너무 업되서 딴길로 새곤하는데 샘은 차분하게 잘 방향을 인도하는 느낌이랄까요

The 쉬다 and 수다 question where one is a sh sound and the other is a s sound is because of the "ㅣ" vowel. In Korean ㅅ and ㅣ at the end always makes a sh sound. It's a fixed rule for that combination regardless of it being a single vowel or a diphthong (a combination of two vowel sounds). So any word you come across with a combination of that consonant and that vowel will have a sh sound. Hope this helps anyone looking for the answer.

I know right, I get so tilted learning korean because of the pronunciation. I need to constantly tell myself not to over analyse because everytime I do I get headaches. I have a feeling that being proficient in 2 languages doesn't help me much since I care a lot of perfecting the pronunciation while korean is like a bit more flexible

Sam should be Olli’s permanent Korean teacher and teacher to any new foreigner You-tuber in S.Korea. Side note, I think Olli knows more than he lets on and is being more attentive in this lesson with Sam due to Sam’s method of explaining things is such a way that resonates in Olli’s hyperactive brain. Plus, it helps that Sam is calm and let’s Olli ask questions of why this verb or that verb cannot be used if it sounds similar without interrupting him

와 확실히 한국어 할때보다 영어 할 때 목소리가 낮아지네요ㅎㅎ 윌벤져스 아부지가 역시 인내심이 좋고 아이들 대할때 처럼 잘 가르친다고 느낌ㅋㅋㅋ

I think Sam has been Ollie’s most successful teacher. Ollie said a lot of correct phrases in this video. Also loved the Tetris analogy~ perfect image for the way Ollie’s Korean comes out. 😂

I think Sam is one of the best English teachers so far!! He understood Ollie's random problem. Ollie I think you will one day be great in Korean plz dont give up :)

He's entertaining but korean variety shows love to make fun of people and although Ollie always laughs and smiles it's gonna affect him at the end, maybe once he's fluent

I’ve never seen Ollie being complimented so much for his korean in a video before..... He’s definitely improved

1. Ollie is smart, he really is. He's so linguistically logical, I guess. It's seen in every single questions he popped out. It's just... He loves poop word a lot lmao 😂 2. Idk but I think Sam is the best teacher so far. Probably bcs of his fatherly figure, and Sam looks like... He's taking this seriously and he's genuinely concern towards Ollie baby 👶 I even got a lot of lesson here in this video, thanks sooo much Josh! And Ollie and Sam too, of course.

3:55 this entire conversation is exactly what I've been wondering, but I always thought it'd be too dumb to ask. so thanks Ollie for reading my mind

I actually showed this to William and he kept looking at Ollie and calling him a baby. I asked him why and he said cause he can't speak Korean very well. I then reminded him that he can't speak Chinese or Spanish but that doesn't make him a baby. Kids look at things differently!

Ollie’s feeing of “I wish I didn’t know the vocab” is sooo relatable, I feel... I’ve been trying to properly learn Nihonji for a few years and having phrases in my head from music and shows feels like it decontextualizes EVERYTHING

@@SamHammington I think you should teach Ollie more often too, you seem to understand how Ollie's mind works and that's great, some more lessons from you and I think Ollie would get better faster 😜 And while you're here, Sam, and I can tag you; I love you and your boys in TROS, you're the only family I watch from the show. William and Bentley are just too precious, cute and smart 😍

Sam is such a great teacher! He’s very patient and tried to understand how Ollie’s brain and learning technique works so to teach him well! Great job y’all, keep up the good work!

For Ollie You asked a question regarding why the "s" shound sometimes changes to a "sh" sound. It does this only when combined with an "i". Eg: 시장, 시작 This is the reason why 쉬다 is pronounced "shwida" instead of "swida" Hope this helps.
