Jemput makan sounds more polite / formal and inviting - ‘please help yourself’ - usually will be said by the host. But also can be said as a reply by the guest. Just like, A:Thank you, ya B: Ya, thank youuu 😅 While Jom makan more like “let’s dig innn!!!” Or “let’s go eat!”

Malaysian can easily adapted to other race food with some modification to suit their taste.... Char kutiew is good example , how Chinese dry char kutiew adapted by malay and improvised to wet version.... But still using same name.... Happy weight gain in malaysia ☺️☺️

Jesse, since you can eat the non halal version, you ought to try the char koay teow in Penang. Dry, wok hei and the vital ingredients infused. Real deal. Penang has street food that made their way to the world's top 50 (source: CNN, BBC and nation news). The most famous two done the Chinese version are asam laksa (ranked 7th) and char koay teow (14th), among a string of many other delicious street food. In Hokkien, the word char means “stir-fried” (hence, dry) and koay teow means “rice cake strips”, referring to the noodles. The Chinese immigrants (to Malaya, now called Malaysia) brought what had begun in China’s south-eastern provinces as a simple noodle dish, cheap and fast to serve the hungry labourers. The dish became a staple. It's a food legacy that we still enjoy until today regardless of its evolving versions.

I think its wrong...the word CHAR is in chinese ( hokkien?) means stir fried...probably the malay coined it means wet kueh tiaw goreng. If you order from the malay stalls , kueh tiaw goreng then its fried ones, if you order char kueh tiaw, its the wet ones.
