KOREAN BBQ and STREET FOOD at Haeundae Traditional Market in Busan South Korea
Before my food adventure begins in Busan at the Haeundae Market, I had to try some street foods, which was a great start to my food day. Then I ate some fresh eel and be aware if you eat eel because the eel was still moving while it was cooking. For my last stop, I had some amazing Hanwoo beef in Busan, and it was one of the most tender and juicy beef I had in Korea.

The eel is actually dead, it's just the salt causing the muscles to contract and relax which makes it look like it's squirming. Still a bit disturbing, but not cruel.

It’s not the salt that’s causing muscle twitches; that’s an urban myth that comes from a science experiment using skinned frogs legs. For eel and other fish, as long as the head is off then it’s dead. These eel were in pieces so there’s no way it’s alive and suffering. BUT Like David Wills here already said, writhing squid and octopus ARE still alive and most likely in pain. Cutting off the “head” doesn’t kill it and their multiple brains are still intact. And yea it’s a pretty cruel cuisine.
If he says it’s spicy then it’s probably liquid fire from hell

One thing I like about your food channel is that you never underestimate the veggie element. A good vegetable combination is capable of enhancing most of the popular food items; even the most delicious piece of kobe beef will shine if paired with the right vegetables. I see most channels treat greens as a necessary evil, or profess their "love" for them with the actual enthusiasm of a 1% parting from their money; not you: you crunch on those leaves with gusto. It's pleasure to watch, makes us gourmet big eaters feel less alone, and it ends up teaching the value of comprehensive good food. Love ya!

I understand one's apprehension while watching something that fresh be cooked. Its actually rather humane. No worse that any other meat being processed or me taking a deer and cooking an organ while still so fresh its warm and has a crunch. Or taking a bite out of the heart, raw.

It's actually melted brown sugar not honey in the hoddeok
@jeongbalsancat
3 жыл бұрын
yeah it's just that Korean vendors label it as honey hottok. IMO honey wouldn't taste as good because it takes longer to caramelize sugars in honey than granulated sugar and the burnt caramel taste and the grainy sugar residue texture is what gives hottok its good taste
@gumi5050

Well, actually when Korean people describe something sweet they use the word "ggul" as an adjective. "ggul" doesn't necessarily mean honey but it means "sweet like honey"

It's likely the eel was already dead before being cooked. Salt added during the cooking process causes the muscle fibers to contract which makes it look like the eel is still alive/squirming; this is a good sign of freshness. The same thing happens with fresh frog legs!
