Korda Thinking Tackle Podcast

Спорт

Ian Russell is a three-time British Carp Angling Championship finalist and former winner of Total Carp’s Battlecarp and Fishing TV's Carp Wars.
As one of carp fishing's best-loved personalities, he became prominent in the UK carp fishing scene as the proprietor of bait rolling company, Heathrow Baits Services. Ian has also written for multiple carp fishing publications and has made numerous TV appearances.
Back in 1996, he caught one of England's most exclusive and revered carp, Summerleaze's Big Fully, a rare and uncommon capture that subsequently propelled his carp fishing profile.
Ian is equally at home fishing crowded day ticket venues, as he is angling on low stocked syndicate lakes. His participation in the British Carp Angling Championships and similar events has exploited his tactical awareness, making him a formidable contender on the competitive scene.
Ian's carp fishing life has been varied and extensive. During this episode of the podcast, he discusses many of his fondest angling memories, as well as lifting the lid on some of his most significant fishing edges.

Knew this would be a great listen. On the few occasions that I’ve met Ian he’s always been a top bloke, very approachable, zero ego, im not surprised he’s managed to have a career in angling for so long, what shop owner wouldn’t like Mr Russell calling in for a brew and entertaining his customers. As much as I enjoy all the podcasts from the younger carp anglers, you can’t beat the ones from the guys who have been there and done it years ago. Maybe it’s my age, but I want to hear about all the heritage waters from years ago, when I was just getting into carp fishing. There’s a few names he mentioned there that would make good podcast guests. Geoff Bowers would be a brilliant listen, as would Albert Romp if you had a swear filter. Dougal would be er, interesting. Kerry Barringer, Kenny Dorset, get more of these guys on that made carp fishing what it is today. Top podcast, thanks Ian.

2hrs of pure magic right up there next to the Mickey Gray one for best TTPC. Lovely man and one of the most modest and humble chaps out there. He’s very generous with his information too, Years ago I asked him a question relating to a shallow silty estate lake I was fishing and he suggested I try soaking bottom baits in sunflower oil. It Worked a bloody treat for me.

Remember the ad with those Summerleaze mirrors and Shoulders from Horton. 4 takes, 3 forties, 1 hook. Gardner Talon Tips. One of the best hook patterns I’ve ever used. Went to the Heathrow Baits unit to get some tutti’s and some leads from Atomic next door. Good on him for making a living doing something he loves.

The anglers you have on these podcasts are by far the best anglers to grace this generation, but please get MATT HAYES involved, I’m pretty sure he could tell more carpy story’s than many on this planet, it’s a shame you missed out on getting one with John Wilson... a very iconic carp figure of the 90s, rip John you were the reason for my love of fishing
