Korda Thinking Tackle Podcast

Спорт

Nick Helleur is by his own admission, the Peter Pan of carp fishing, indulging in a hedonistic lifestyle of worldwide angling adventures and carp fishing discoveries.
His fishing life started from an early age after he moved to Harefield in the Colne Valley at the time England’s carp fishing mecca. Nick’s formative years saw him acquaint himself with some of the country’s most iconic waters including The Con’s, and Savay. This is where he rubbed shoulders with some of the leading anglers of the time, including Bill Quinlan and Rod Hutchinson.
The consequence of being banned from a prestigious club led to a change in his carp fishing philosophy, as he opted for a more solitary approach and resisted the allure of the country’s big fish circuit waters. Nick has also been a consultant for some of the industry’s biggest companies, including Shimano, Aqua and Korda.
While recording a film for Sticky Baits’ Reflections series in 2018, he landed the largest ever publicised carp from the river Thames, weighing 50lb 12oz. He has pioneered some of carp angling’s most commonly used methods, such as PVA stick fishing, and his appearances on films both domestically, and across Europe are always sure to captivate an audience.

Brutal, Honest, Charming, Engaging, Enlightening and Refreshing with a lot of uncomfortable Truths for many I suspect. Puts many things into perspective for us to reflect upon. Unfortunately, much will fall on deaf ears, with the masses continuing to absorb the latest trends handing their money over like sheep to the slaughter. Thankfully there are still people out there like Nick who may just influence one or two like minded people. Great Pod, many thanks

This man brought up some really interesting and important points on the sustainability of carp angling ,points that nearly all others anglers in his position seem very reluctant or scared to address. Shame i had to sit through nearly 2 hours of contradictions to get to the good stuff though! All jokes aside, why has nobody ever made a proper factual film aimed at educating anglers on how to handle large carp on the bank ? you can find 50,000 videos on roni rigs and pop ups or trying to sell you their latest unhooking mat but not 1 film from somebody knowledgable in carp anatomy about the stress a fish will go through on the bank ? how to handle large carp once their organs have been compressed from no longer being weightless in water, what is an appropriate time to have a large old carp on the bank for photos? how long should a fish be held in a retainer in summer ? does pouring a cup of water over a fish actually do anything useful etc etc etc .The fact there is only a tiny amount of this information availabable to new anglers highlights where we really are in carp angling and what the priorities of most companies and anglers are.

Very true Martin. I fished Long Life, The Cons, Fisheries and Harefield in the mid 'to late 70s and life was very different there then and the fishing seemed to be more of a laugh. I can certainly relate to hearing guys return from the pub and not make it to their swims.... sleeping in the bush they fell in! Cracking days.

By far the best yet! I fully agree about the floatation slings, bad weather with big winds coming at you on a huge water bashes them about massively. It's much better imho to use a big sack with a h-block and screw in heavy duty bank stick in a deep water spot chosen beforehand, even if it means donning chest waders in the dark. Star lights (mini glowsticks :) are very useful too I must add :)

Well, that was entertaining! Nick the Pest has certainly walked his own path, have to respect that. He experienced a very different world to ex-corporate me, but his views on today’s commercialised UK carp scene resonate. He is a very good angler, too, the stick has caught so many fish for so many people....... and he can describe the spirituality of so many quiet nights and dawns, where we are truly alone with nature❤️. Been fishing in the US for 15 years now, Nick is right, it’s wild and wide open. We’ll look out for him on DH!!!

Graet podcast. its true what he said about Germany, I passed my German fishing test last week (it was bloody hard) but I had to do it. to give you an idea I can fish a 23KM long stretch of river, and 14 lakes for 25Euro a year. A lake nearest to me has carp at 28KG maybe there is bigger in there but I have only scratched the surface. to see another carp angler here is very rare.
