I'm a Sharks fan, and even though I never liked Quick, I respected the hell out of him. He didn't deserve this. Making Kopitar upset is truly illegal and pushes it even further. And now Quick's on VEGAS, and both these guys and my Sharks potentially have to face him on the ice at least one more time this season? Double illegal and disrespectful.

Are you saying the Kings should be made to eat the roster spot when it was clear they had to move on? Multiple times this season when he had his chance the Kings would go right back to losing. I don't even know if that's his fault but it was clear they were going to be stuck with trying to make a run with Copley. Are you saying the Kings should ignore all of that and keep him, hoping he retires and they can have the banner ceremony? Or do they just watch him try to have a Fleury-like rebirth somewhere else as a UFA, in which case we're in the same spot. I'm actually not disagreeing with what you said about respecting him or not wanting to see him if he gets hot in the playoffs. I'm just wondering if the Kings should have said, "no we shouldn't take a miracle opportunity to improve here because it's Quick. He's earned his spot on the bench for the playoffs."

This is not a kindergarden league. This is NHL where what you have done in the past will get you only that far. NHL is business first, just like any other businesses. JQ had a weaker season, his performance was not where it should be, plus other factors went into play as well. You have to realize these players are getting paid huge money, and for that kind of money they're expected to perform. Quicks style and age caught up with him, and I actually wasn't surprised with the trade at all. I thought that if GM pulls the trigger, it won't be the new kids but the weakest link in present system which, unfortunate as it is, was Quick, and it was for extended time period. JQ is a living hockey legend but he was not protected from trade in his contract, and being emotionally attached to players didn't work well for Blake and Kings in the past. Blake did what he had to do for the team. I have no doubt that if either Kopi or DD started to be on noticeable decline and had no no-trade clause in their contracts, they would find themselves on trading block. Being emotional is good, but business decision always has to come before the emotions. Emotions will subside rather quickly but bad business decisions will impact business for long time. Yes, I feel for all three players, their pain and frustration, but they're pros and they'll get through it. And Quick will have still a shot at the Cup, only with a different team. Did anyone cry for Marty who scored both game 7 winning goals in 2014? No. Life's not fair. Deal with it.

It’s not that they traded him, I actually believed it would’ve happened sooner or later. It’s how they went about it. Your lineup still stucks compared to the 6 teams in the east. You probably get smoked by Edmonton again too. I don't think pissing off your team and Quick was worth the cost, not to mention is the the save percentage of Korpisalo really going to make a difference beyond 1 or 2 games at most? I hope pissing off your star players was worth changing your cup odds from 2.8% to 2.9%.

To be honest, the Kings ripped the band-aid off hard. It's an incredibly tough decision to make but look at their results. They shored up defense and net in a single trade. Their offense carries the team and now they are more complete and can compete in the playoffs. It's not fun seeing this go down but there is no doubt in my mind it was the correct move to make for winning. A bummer they'll have to play against him on Vegas

EVEN IF he's not performing well, my god he's practically in his last year or so in the league anyway, just let the dude finish out his career where it all started. What a disaster. He's has one subpar season after so many outstanding ones, and he's instantly expendable. If anything, Copley had stepped into the starting role and has done a great job. Quick could have finished out what was his last year of his contract as the back-up and probably retired. But the most damning thing is that after all he's done for the franchise, and all the years he's been there, the front office didn't even have the courtesy to let him know he's on the trading block. They should have at least given him a heads up. He deserved that much.

@@pomerlain8924 yeah, it sucks but this is a business. Let me ask you a question if you’ve worked for a job for five years and you did a really good job for the first four years. But at the 5th year your performance was way below what is acceptable for that job position. Do you think it’s OK for that employer fire you and replace you with someone who is going to do the job properly?

  • @pomerlain8924

@@Rex73777 Do you think it's OK for that employer to fire you without notice or warning? Just show up for work like normal one day, and you're told to pack up your desk, you're fired. And Quick didn't just do a really good job. He backstopped the franchise to two Stanley Cups and won a Conn Smythe. And for many years, he was the best player on the team, especially when Kings couldn't give him consistent goal support. Yeah, you can say it's a business, but there also should be a level of respect. The Kings have NO championship history without Quick. You give him the heads-up if you're trading him. And you don't trade him to one of the worst franchises in the league where he'll never have a chance to win again. The reason he didn't have no-move clause was because he was expecting the same kind of respect and loyalty in return that he gave the franchise for over a decade. And if the Kings don't win a cup or it's the Knights, with Quick backstopping them, that beats them, it will be Quick who's laughing.

Not trade them for spare parts without telling anyone. Horrible treatment for a guys who's number should he in the rafters the day he retires.
