I'm a Red Wings fan and I fucking HATED playing the Sharks in the early 2010s because of these two, but goddamnit they're both fuckin' beauties.
Bruins fan here .. I love both those guys! So cool!
I'm an Oilers fan, but that was beautiful to watch. Both great players 👏
Go Kings Go! Die hard Kings fan here...thank you for the memories and the constant competition which you brough for your team and against the Kings. God bless you and your family!

I'll never forget giving Luc Robatille a standing ovation at the end of the last game of his career, at HP pavillion with 17,495 of my closest friends. I was 17 at the time, and playing and watching hockey were probably the most important things in my life at that moment, with the benefit of hindsight. It meant a lot to me to be part of a group that could put competition aside for a moment and embrace each other's humanity.
Randy Hahn calling the game "He shoots he scores! Patrick Marleau!" Gotta be one of my favorite calls in all of sports. I loved hearing those words on Shark nights!
My wife and I were so happy to go see Patrick Marleau jersey retirement. We enjoyed the game against the Blackhawks after, but seriously we were just in tears and just so happy to see Patrick Marleau and all these other people he played with their and other Legends like Rollie Fingers and Barry Bonds show up. The first-ever San Jose Sharks jersey retired. Truly epic
LOVED this moment!! Two of the best forever linked. As Shark fans we were really spoiled for a long time.

Agree. I of course wish they hoisted a cup, but they had so many great players and teams throughout the years. It's just a game, and they made it very entertaining over the years! Still love them, but they got some major work to do !!! 😂
What a great moment in Sharks' history - thanks for posting this Brodie. I moved to San Jose at the end of 2005, just after Jumbo got traded to the Sharks and for more than a decade I was lucky to see Patty and him play together culminating in a Cup Final. A few years later when I moved back to Toronto, I got to see them separately play for the Leafs, but nothing compares to those days back in the Shark Tank. Congrats to Patty on a great career! It must have been a very special night back in San Jose.
A beautiful moment among not just teammates but friends.
LOVE these two. It was emotional watching this ceremony at many times, this one in particular.... Hahn and Rusanowsky calling Marleau goals have been the soundtrack to my childhood and young adult life... GREAT MEMORIES. Thanks Patty Marleau.
Moments like these is what makes sports great.
Goosebumps watching this, even tho as a Penguins fan it hurt a little bit seeing Joe and Marleau not being the ones to lift the cup that year in the final 2016. Much respect to each player for their career and putting up the numbers that they did. It sucks growing up knowing that these special players wont occur as much as they will and i really hope they will get the chance to lift a cup in their lifetime.
Well darn it, my eyes are leaking again. Such a special night. So great to be there for it in person.
I grew up watching both of these legends. Thank you for all the memories!
I never was a sharks fan but these two were always my favorite sharks and two of my favorite players in general that I got the privilege to grow up watching.
As an Oilers fan, I’m watching this as a hockey fan and damn that was beautiful Thornton’s beard is off the charts and awesome for Marleau to get his jersey in the rafters Great stuff Sharks Peace everyone
Joe was the only hockey player who tipped me when I worked in a hotel.
Loved them both....especially for the short time they both played for the Leafs. Great guys..and great players.
Wow, the jersey retirement that I didn't know I needed.
Just the obvious feeling that it's excruciating not to have seen this guy win a Cup. LEGEND.
What a great organization.
Grew up in NJ. I moved to the Bay Area when I was 21 in 2003. I’m absolutely blessed to have witnessed Patty play.
when patrick handed joe the handkerchief to wipe away his tears. what a moment

I was fortunate enough to see many, many games at the Tank with these two on the ice. Thanks for the memories, Patrick and Joe!
Thornton looking up at the screen seeing himself, getting tears thinking, DAAJM i am good looking, i need to cry! ez
A couple legends! Both had incredible careers. Got to see these guys play live many times throughout their Careers. I was always hoping one day Joe would end up on the Canucks lol. Congratulations two a couple hero’s both on and off the ice!
this video leaves me in tears. thank you boys for the wonderful childhood i will never forget. Flip yeah I got both of their 05-6 jerseys.
One of the best duo
such a crazy moment...reminds me of when Ray Bourque Finally Lifted the cup ! this moment will never be forgotten... 2 legends.. just ballin as the look back at their time as players. and friends. fkn epic.
We became Sharks Hockey Fans from the first game at the Cow Palace. Retiring Patrick Marleau # 12 hockey shirt was an amazing, touching and inspiring experience. An epic event in Hockey history. Patty represents the best of all, in one human being! God bless you Patrick and your beautiful family. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for sharing Brodie. Tears in my eyes too. Partly because I had a ticket to the game but got stuck in a winter storm and couldn't make it. 😢
2 legends amazing love u guys
i was 14 years old when i got my first PC. The first two games i got were Half-Life and NHL98. Soon after NHL99. I was playing solely San Jose Sharks and even if i wasn't able to watch the actuall games (i'm from Europe) back in the days, these two players were on my roster non-stop. Watching this, my memories comes back ... amazing how far and for how long these players stayed together. I'm thankful to the KZread algorithm, that it showed me this video. Best whishes to both of them from Slovakia 💌
Loved watching the late 2000's early 2010's Sharks teams. So much fun. Islanders fan here and would get the hockey package each year back then to just watch San Jose and Detroit games. Loved how those teams just played and moved the puck.
Jumbo never got his return to San Jose moment because of Covid(I’m pretty sure), so I think the reception from crowd helped the tears. I’m not sure he realizes just how much he’s beloved.

Your team isn’t even that old amd already 2 or 3 cups. Hardly that special to fire up thr water works. I get you if Toronto does it this year there will be grown men crying. True, proud Canadians that actually lived through the pain and disappointment for over half a century not the newly minted immigrants who paid $90 for a leafs jersey and calls them selve a die hard leaf fan for 2 or3 years strong. No offense, there no way you get to call yourself a die hard if you haven’t lived through the Ballard years.

was never a sharks fan, but god damn i always wanted Thornton, Marleau, and Nabokov to win that cup in San Jose, especially when they started getting up there in age, they deserved it
I love this team
two of the best to ever do it. without cup. . i will miss this era of hockey.
Bruins fan here I will always love Jumbo Joe and he deserves to win the Stanley cup.
These are the moments in hockey that just make you smile. This is what it's all about! As a Kings fan, these two gave us fits, but i respect the hell out of these two!
Thanks for posting this for the fans who didnt get to see it.
Jumbo Joe. As a kings fans it was always a fight. Thanks for the rivalry
Brought tears to my eyes❤
Not to sound like a Bruins fan sore about the trade decades ago, but all I ever see with Joe when he is playing against us or I hear his name is the thought of all the lost memories we as Bruins fans would have had with Jumbo as our star. Props to the Sharks for believing in the guy. It's been fun watching him dominate the league for two decades approaching three? However long it's been grats on a terrific career so far. As a Bruins fan we will always love you big guy.

We likely don't have the same team in 2011, or win with him here. I'd take the cup over Thornton. But yeah, I wish he was here longer, he was my favorite Bruin for awhile and I followed SJ a long time while he was there. I wish he got a cup. Really wanted them to beat Pitt.
Absolutely love this. Congratulations Patrick
Loved both them guys huge joe fan
I looked up too you guys growing up so sad but so happy at the same time🙏
Favorite player ever and that will not change.
Some of those playoffs. Man Marleau and Joe competed through some legendary games. Rivalry with the Kings etc. One of the best runs by an NHL franchise during their era. To say nothing of Team Canada royalty. 🇨🇦
As a Boston fan who's seen him play for us in #19 in those days, i'd say San Jose should send his number up too.

When Thornton was here in Boston, a buddy of mine and myself went to see a boxing match at Foxwoods Casino in CT. We walk around the corner and there is Thornton standing in the middle of the hallway with a beer in each hand. My buddy says “ he must be in training”…”Congratulations Joe and Patrick!
ive cried at the avs winning the cup. but god dang this was real close. so happy for them
Much respect
Two absolute beauties right there. Congrats Patty Marleau
Awww tear in’ up over all the cups they never won. Room mates and foster in’ bonds. 💕

I'm not the biggest NHL fan, but this seems a lot to me as a Dallas fan, like Dirk felt to us. Very happy to see you guys have him retire with you guys, beautiful ceremony ❤️

I'm a fan of both, and it's a very apt comparison. Maybe with the exception that Dirk led you to a championship and never ever left, but the feeling is the same.
He needs his own wall in the HHOF. This man oozes respect both on and off the ice.
Not gonna lie I teared up a little. The two guys who really put the Sharks on the map.
Canadians are like the little brother you never wanted....but needed from day one! Tough as nails/and in your corner for life!!
San José fans seinzed the moments. salute from Montreal fan!
You're missed Joe. You've been my favorite player since i first saw you play for the Bruins. Wish you could have won a cup.
Nothing but respect for these two. Hockey is the best damn sport out there no questions asked
A fine player indeed.
Marleau never won the cup but he is still one of the best players ever in the NHL plus well respected.
