Kong shares some of the same personality traits with Caesar from Planet of the Apes which includes leadership and standing up for his fellow apes.

Why? He's clearly not a Gorilla and some sort of Chimp/Orangutan hybrid so it wouldn't make sense for him to be bigger than Kong. Size isn't everything, you can still have a villain be threatening and intimidating without being physically bigger than the protagonist and Skar King is proof of that. Besides that he isn't even small, just skinny with a hunched posture. When he stands up straight to look at Kong's metal tooth he's only shorter by a few inches, or I guess it would technically be metres in their case.

Skar king is clearly a threat since he captured shimo and forced Godzilla to absorb more energy to evolve. But Godzilla and Kong are too great of a duo. They took down Mechagodzilla together and that was before all the power ups they got this movie, Skar king was simply up against the best titans there were
