18:28: "For whatever reason, they couldn't use [the original X-Men VO]." I worked at Marvel Games during this games production, and I can tell you the reason: The re-recordings were protection against being sued -- no one knew who recorded them originally! The records simply did not exist.

19:15: There was a point when we were asked if we wanted to "correct" the voices since that needed to be re-recorded. For a brief moment, we considered it, but ultimately we felt it just wouldn't be the original game without "welcome to die" and other badly translated lines. (This was largely my personal decision since I was the biggest fan of the game on staff. What I REALLY wanted was both -- but that just wasn't possible due to Konami's resources for the game.)

Not even really related to the first comment, but the Tresure game I might have the most fond memories of is probably Bleach: The Blade Of Fate on the Nintendo DS. They took a popular anime license and made a decent 2D fighting game that not only had a robust roster, but a really solid single cartridge wireless multiplayer. When me and my college buddies were done trading pokemon, we frequently would start up some four player free for all anime fights. The sequel, Dark Souls, was alright but I felt the additions to the roster were mostly joke characters you never wanted to pick for a serious competition. And after that, Bleach games basically took a nose dive in quality much like the series itself.

Regarding the ports of the Simpsons arcade game on Commodore and DOS, the computer rights and the video game console rights used to be completely separate from one another. That particular detail was part of the infamous Tetris legal battle between Nintendo and Tengen. The man who had given Tengen permission to make their version of Tetris *thought* he had negotiated the rights for both computers and video game consoles in the West when in fact he had only acquired the computer rights.

Fast forward a few years when the venues changed and MagFest put up signs asking people not to make the Colossus Call outside of convention space with a space at the bottom asking to please consider Nightcrawler's noise instead, and I got a hearty chuckle out of that. I remember thinking Reshelled wasn't real because it vanished so fast. I saw one of my friends playing it, and was like "Looks cool, maybe I'll get it when I have the money" and when I did have the money, it was gone. I had myself convinced my friends either lied to me or it was a dream, and I was angry at my friends for like, a week for lying to me in a dream.

Fun fact: The X-Men Arcade beat-em-up was actually based on the 89 series that only had a pilot. The classic series (X-Men '92) didn't come out until the fall of the year after this beast was released. Plus they were taking off from the '91 Jim Lee series, plus the Toy Biz toys that were selling since 91... Don't get me wrong. The years of 1992-1997 definitely had a win with the TV series. Some of the comic storylines were iconic, others were considered duds at the time, trying to piggy back off the "Death of Superman" phenomenon of shock value (which was really just piggy backing off the Jason Todd hotline). But they were starting to go strong before Losch got the green-light from Fox Kids for the series.

The first nes tmnt game doesn’t get enough love. Definitely in my top 10. I love how you can change between turtles on the fly, find scrolls, ropes (you have to have ropes but scrolls aren’t necessary, but recommended), each turtle in flicks different amounts of damage depending on the enemy. You can drive around the map. it’s kind of an open world and has a water stage. It did all this before anyone else and isn’t as hard as it’s reputation, when you learn how to play it. Everything else I agree with and love me some stop skeletons from fighting, which will never be delisted.

I remember Re-Shelled, and still have both TMNT games on my 360 as well. Soon as I got an Xbox I was quick to buy both of them and was so glad I did before finding out they were gone forever within a couple years thanks to Nickelodeon's buyout of the property to make the 2012 cartoon. Re-Shelled may not have been anywhere near as good as the SNES port, or even quite what we wanted being based off the arcade version, I still enjoyed it at the time. Getting to jump online and play with strangers on both games was always a fun feature, and trying to tell friends about it years later was like talking about a UFO sighting. You could show them how it looked but never be able to experience it again with them. Now the only option outside of owning a console (or an account that bought the game originally) is to get a PS3 emulator and find the game that way. But speaking of the TMNT ports, I remember unlocking Turtles in Time on TMNT 3 for Gamecube and immediately was disgusted by the changes in music and sound effects. I don't think I even could finish the first stage before I had to go back to the actual game (and later back to the SNES instead) because it just bothered me too much, even as a teenager. I had no idea they included the original arcade game in TMNT 2, but if it's that badly mixed, I guess I didn't miss much.

B 'n his B is getting way more love in the comments than I anticipated, but I've always called 'em like I see 'em and I don't think I've played a more aggressively mediocre game in my life. It has a hug button, and that's it. We attempted to review it multiple times over the years, but there are games that are way cuter, with better puzzles, better music, better aesthetics overall, but no aspect of it is really that bad.

My dad was one of the people who got the Xbox 360 Simpsons arcade port, I'm glad to have grown up playing that game, it is truly a amazing experience.

Been waiting for this for so long. I still need to clean up the rest of the trophies for X-Men and The Simpsons.

God the memories of playing Simpsons arcade at the local hockey rink. The krusty balloon nightmares were worth it

Sad to see titles like Turtles in Time Re-Shelled gone forever. It's one of the reasons why I have a jailbroken PS3. I managed to redownload it, and now I own it forever :)

0:49 Sunset Riders is currently available in the Switch eshop, under the Arcade Archives brand (maybe on other platforms, too), FYI.
