I worked for this company in that mine, and when you were working next to one of these monsters, and he had his entire blade full, coming at you it was scary, and awesome at the same time. 1100 HP, twin turbo, twin fuel pumps, same engine that was in the Komatsu 785 haul truck.

CAT kids. Just look at their latest creation the new D7E, IT is a LOW SPROCKET design!!! If you look at the D11s the sprocket tooth loading is all on MAYBE 5 or 6 teeth. The original D10 was bad enough but then they upgraded the tracks for the 11s buy making them longer BEHIND the sprocket which took even more track AWAY from the sprocket .ALL other dozers have 180°of track to contact the sprocket, which can be up to 20 plus teeth. The pin & bushing loading is BRUTAL on a high sprocket dozer

Sometime in the late 80s they brought the first 575 over to America. My grandfather was featured in the magazine as first to operate the dozer. He said they got it to the site piece by piece on a train and then assembled it on site! I wished my grandmother could find the magazine.

What was amazing was the 575a-3 that could push 30% more than these a-2's. You can tell them apart as the a-3 does not have a ripper, just a huge counter weight.

@zrparker1981 I totally agree with you. A D-11T will not out push a D575 push for push. The D-11 will how ever push more dirt while the Komatsu is in the shop for 3 months waiting on some five dollar part that has to be made to order. There is a reason why Black Thunder Mine has over 60 D-11's and 0 575's. They had one at one time (Im sure some Komatsu rep was doing some man touching to get it there) and they couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

@784plb The D10s & D11s are NOT,repeat NOT,repeat NOT,the same. The original D10s had a shorter track frame than the new replacement D11s. The track frame on an 11 is longer after the sprocket which takes track chain AWAY from the sprocket ie LESS tooth contact with the chain.

A very strong machine but it was priced high, maintenance cost is unbelievable and ended up being parked out most places because of maintenance cost. You could get two Cat D11s for the price of one 575 and on a long push one D11 can move almost as much material in a 11 1/2 hr shift as the 575. The cat is that much faster and also cheaper to operate. But when the 575 was running it was a sight to behold.

Yes far more efficient models out now. One of these 2 dozers is in a heavy machine museum in Cambridge New Zealand. Was gifted to the owner as they couldn’t find anyone to purchase the old gas guzzlers. New owner only had to sort the heavy haul bill to get it to the museum. I have a pic of my boy standing on the top plate. Can hardly make him out up there.

@21gibbs, 575s arnt much bigger then d11s, and have a bad disign, even though they cant use high track because cat copy wrote it. the final drives take more stress because thier so big and get more surface area from the tracks having to go basically right around and the duo cones get ran into the ground from being so exposed to the dirt, also 575s dont even have removable belly guards, you have smalled space to stick hands in under, other wise for big jobs you have to remove the enitre cab..
