Two things are clear now. One: The Basque came from a far planet, where the elder peoples' hair became blue. 2nd Girls in their teens sometimes have their hair coloured blue, maybe they have unknowingly a Basque gene and want to look older ;-) When I was in the Basque country hiru aldiz, out of a dozen of Basque people I meet only one knew the meaning of the colours of the Ikurrina (Basque flag). White is for God or the Spirit, red stands for Bizkaia, and green is for the oak tree in Gernika. Gernika is a very beautiful town, (been there) also with an amazing Basque assembly house, unfortunately with a very tragic history. gorritu can also means to blush. (( German also uses a red bases word: erröten). Wish you all who have not been to EH, you can go soon and for some weeks at least; Bidaia ona izan (Happy journey). Ongi etorri (welcome). Out of curiosity, are you Basque yourself Shanna? I always assume most English speakers learning Basque have some ancestry lol 😂

I have no Basque blood or heritage that I know of, but yes there is a large number of children or grandchildren of Basques who immigrated to the US and never learned the language!
