Kolonaki (Greek: Κολωνάκι), or "Little Column", is an upscale neighborhood in central Athens, Greece. It is located on the southern slopes of Mount Lycabettus. Its name derives from the two meter column (located in Kolonaki Square) that defined the area even before the area's urbanization. Shops in Kolonaki include haute couture from Greek and international designers. One of its main shopping streets, Voukourestiou Street, is now known for its jewelry. Museums and galleries include the Benaki Museum, the Goulandris Museum of Cycladic Art, the Museum of the History of Greek Costume and the Theater Museum. Across the street from Vasilissis Sofias Avenue are the Byzantine Museum, and the War Museum of Athens. Options for nightlife include bars, ouzeries, and tavernas. The Lycabettus Funicular links Kolonaki to the summit of Mount Lycabettus. Kolonaki also hosts two metro stations, Evengelismos and Megaro Mousikis.

Another little video from my summer trip to Greece. Greece is unfortunately a very poor country nowadays, so I thought it would be a great idea to see that part of Athens where the rich people live... Like the video, Share it and Subscribe, there will be more!

There are rich people living in Greece, like shipowners. Greek shipowners own the 21% of the world's total merchant fleet. Have a look in the southern suburbs during summer time, from Microlimano, Marina Zeas, night clubs up to Island club and hotels up to Lagonisi, you will find the world's most expensive houses (20millions plus), hotels( like 30k per night), cars and yachts. Houses on Dionysiou Ariopagitou are also among the most expensive in the world also. Some are like 56k euros per square metre .

Greece is not comparable to, say, Germany or France for sure. It's on a par with Portugal, Hungary etc, in terms of GDP and has at least twice as high as the average income of Turks. As for Kolonaki, it hardly has any posh areas or a vibrant lifestyle to show. It's a little more upscale than the areas bordering it.

Well... I come from Romania and I'm old enough to remember the 90s. Greece had distinct Romania in the 1990s vibes. I've never seen so many poor people and starving beggars. Certainly not in Eastern Europe today. Nonetheless I enjoyed my time there and will be returning this year... The problem with truly posh areas is that everything is hidden behind tall walls, there are no people around, etc, so there isn't anything to film from the street level. @@evatsel

@@walkandcamera yes you are right. Athens is full of beggars from the Balkans, the East and Africa. Many of them came in the last thirty years, especially when the borders opened and the ex communist countries had to export people who couldn't earn enough. I'm also old enough to remember the 70's and the 80's. I visited your country in 1989 and again in 2010. The difference is striking in the capital indeed, not that much in the countryside, could still see pictures long lost. I hope you keep on travelling, it's an eye opener.

Another great walk. In the residential path I get to appreciate the value of building along the contour lines of the city terrain. IOW - the narrow stairways between levels (of the streets) and between building, at mid-block, become nice pedestrian passageways and add a bit of color to your perspective of Kolonaki. We can experience the journey without the distractions of main city street noise and commotion. Well done. Made me wonder how expensive the rich neighborhood is contrasted to other sectors of Athens.

Also check out the Lycabettus walk, where you see it from above. They have massive swimming pools on every roof - no doubt a very wise choice in a region prone to earthquakes...

The richest area in the centre is Palaio Psychiko, not Kolonaki. Ekali in Northern suburbs and Vouliagmeni in Southern

@@walkandcamera There aren't much to see there apart rich houses. If you go winter check closer to Kifisia in the Northern suburb and Glyfada in south

I'd hardly refer to Greece as a very poor country. It's not Somalia for god's sake. No one's starving in Greece.

A lower average wage than Turkiye I believe. Certainly it's a reasonable comment from a European perspective. Many folks are struggling in Greece, homelessness is rife.
