Thank you very much, Koichi is an inspiring source. I had never seen interviews of him. For over 20 years I tried to contact him. Thank you for this great interview and all his anecdotes. 🙏🙏🙏🔥👊🎥

I envy you. One of the all-time great American fight flicks and, in my opinion, the best of the 90’s.

The mention of linear editing of the vhs era is something that anyone should appreciate, as a limitation inspiring creativity. So many great works informed by so-called in-camera editing in response to studios, censors, etc.

Now would be a good time for Koichi to convene with guys like Kane Kosugi and Hayate. Or even Ayane from Mad Cats. Or Saori Izawa. Japan action stardom feels like a tangible thing with these talents.

I think he has done something with Kane recently, a la Good Morning Sleeping Lion 2.

Koichi and Alpha Stunts has contributed so much to action and beyond. Thanks for having him on! I've always wondered about that truck flat bed fall. So many cool insights.

Oh my gosh, Sakamoto is here!? I love his works in all the ultraman franchise, but you can clearly see his love for Leo. Ultraman Leo could not lose under his direction.

A friend told me yesterday that Power Rangers officially ended recently. I guess it was well past its prime. Another staple of American pop culture and family-friendly action entertainment imported from its original Japanese source material thanks to the ingenious work of Koichi Sakamoto. I hope he's going to have at least some involvement with the upcoming film reboot....

56:01 your reaction to "it'll hurt you but it won't kill you" is too real XD i think that's the first time I've seen you become totally uncomposed from talking about how a stunt was performed

I still have not seen Wicked Games. Where can I watch it? That and Broken Path need a wider release. I knew about Broken Path back then, I remember seeing the trailer for it. There have been many instances where I could feel the emotions thru the mask of a Power Ranger, Ultraman, or Kamen Rider. I love Koichi Sakamoto. Not just his work on Power Rangers, but his work on Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, Kamen Rider Fourze, Ultraman Ginga S, Ultraman Geed, and Ultraman Trigger, in both their episodes and movies. Especially when he introduced martial arts styled fighting in Ultraman thru Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend. Up to that point, Ultras mostly just wrestled and grappled. I loved the changes he brought to Ultraman. I still love both Guyver films That was Kamen Rider Fourze, not Gears, at 1:17:29

Awesome stuff. A special thanks to Koichi Sakamoto and Alpha stunts, one of my first (if not the very first) martial arts inspirations was Power Rangers and it was also the genesis of many happy childhood memories playing with my friends. Also nice that Won Jin got a shoutout for the Guyver Kick. Cheers

I was hoping to learn if Koichi was attempting to at all rectify BROKEN PATH by possibly getting the film back and maybe paving the way for a proper stateside release.

1:33:28 interesting he mentions southern China fighting on boats. i just watched red cliff and part of the story hinged on the southerners' knowledge of naval battle. not a huge connection, but I've of those things that makes you think, "huh, maybe that tracks..."

@@EricJacobusOfficialYESSSSSS! I’ve still got my copy of Extreme Heist somewhere. That’s an American martial arts classic, up there with your Undisputed’s and his work on Guyver 2 and Drive. And I can’t forget Contour. 😉
