    Interesting. I would hope a knife as much as they go for would have a good ht, but we all know that so far price hasn't really been an across the board factor. I have a magnacut Bradford Guardian 3.5, but I don't know how that would compare being a thicker grind fixed blade. So far I'm still on the factory edge, but haven't got a ton of use on it, and what little use I do have was on wood, so a whole different medium so I can't really make any kind of judgement on it yet.

  • @Outpost_76

    @Outpost_76

    2 жыл бұрын

    The easiest explanation for fatigue is bending a paper clip until it breaks. That's what happens when yoi strop and edge many many times during continuous use without sharpening. I have not but if I get the opportunity I'll test Herman knives.

  • @Phiz787

    @Phiz787

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Outpost_76 I guess I understand that, but why then would a factory edge perform poorly due to fatigue? Are the factory edges stropped heavily? Also, wouldn't the 2nd and 3rd resharpened edges perform better and better in terms of endurance just because the thickness bte is greater? Rather than because of a fatigue being sharpened away? Maybe I heard wrong but it seemed like the edge was performing better after resharpening because the metal was fresh. I would think it's geometry instead?

  • @Outpost_76

    @Outpost_76

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Phiz787 edges from the factory in most cases are sharpened and stropped using high speed belts and or wheels. This creates heat which causes fatigue. When that and the abrasive is combined you get metal fatigue and over heating to some degree. The geometry has little to no effect on how well a steel or knife is going to do on non binding materials like cardboard.
