+Loc9 This tent is so cool. All of the kids tried to sleep in the tent with us on our last camping trip...ha! It was bananas. I crept out to sleep in the cab because definitely 2 adults and 2 kids is the max capacity for a good night's rest. Wishing you fun outings with your family, too. :)

Thanks for a great review! Also, total props on loving each other so much! I was constantly smiling listening to you speak with each other and your little ones. Super review, guys. One thing that was not mentioned is that you need to set up the tent on a hot day and then hose it thoroughly down, let dry totally before storing. It is then ready to use. That washing down in the heat of the day, tightens the cotton canvas weave. It really makes it shed rain with the weave tightened by the heat and water. Always make sure that the canvas tent goes into storage dry. Mildew loves canvas. If it is damp or wet, once home I have a long galvanized pipe covered with a pvc pipe hanging in my garage to let it dry thoroughly before storage. Periodically I reposition the canvas so all areas are dry. Once dry, I store all of it in a long plastic foot locker. When tent is in use, the foot locker becomes extra storage and a night stand beside my fancy cot. With a nice piece of carpet for the toes, it's like glamping so cozy. Mine is a long box, full pickup bed size...lots of room for one or two....or more!

@BarbedStar Thank you for sharing. :) I hadn't thought about about hosing it down before using it...and we got the tent at the end of the winter. That's a very good point about making sure the tent is thoroughly dry before storing it. I should probably take our tent out when it hasn't been used for a minute just to make sure it's not collecting any mildew. I like your foot locker idea, too.

@catalysts17az Thanks! 🙂 I wouldn't try to drive with the tent up... maybe if you are just changing campsites or can stick with really low speeds. We bought an air mattress through Amazon that we returned...they still haven't refunded our purchase (we sent it back 4 weeks ago). Our plan is to purchase another truck airbedz mattress through the manufacturer rather than through Amazon. Pittman Outdoors, the makers of the truck airbedz...they reached out to us and promised to make sure any replacement mattress we purchased through them would be guaranteed. We plan on getting a replacement and doing a review video on the process. (We have a review video on the defective airbedz posted to our channel.) I hope this helps!

Good video. I was wondering if buying one of these would work for me and I enjoyed seeing the ins or outs of the assembly.

I like the way it sets up, this Kodiak Canvas Truck Bed Tent the bedrail mounting brackets and the Bars better than the thin fiberglass rods. The canvas material is much better than this thin material other use.

Having no floor is a big plus for me. I can build a bed frame, etc and not worry about ripping out the flimsy tent floor. I have a Napier being delivered tomorrow. I’m seriously thinking of sending it back and ordering a Kodiak

I have the same tent but I have an aluminum skidding tonneau cover on my truck. I ended up buying deeper C clamps turned them upside down and used a 1X1 filler on the bottom side. I think it worked better than the original design because it takes less turns on the handle and the bed is not in the way of the handle.

I have a sliding cover with the canister at the front so Im glad I saw this comment. We are doing a road trip and it would be nice to just lay everything in the bed and slide the cover back over without having to pack everything back up after every stop. also The storage would get stupid without leaving everything at risk of theft in the bed without the cover.

Modern Day Conestoga Wagon Adventure!! ….great video...I want one. I'm gonna get the Airbedz as well. Trying to figure out if you have to put it up, then down to explore...then back up again on second night, does it seem like a lot of work as opposed to a regular tent that you could leave for the day while exploring with your truck? That seems to be my only concern but love the tent!

@Mike Bast The setup and take down go more smoothly the more you do it. And we are in the process of exchanging our Airbedz mattress...the material was excellent, the battery was dead on arrival and the extender section didn't fit with the mattress itself. But! Once we get a new one that works right, I think this is going to be the perfect pairing. When we take down the tent, we leave it lying in the bed, so that helps save time. It's just an adjustment from the traditional tent we have used in the past. :)

There is a video of a guy trying that out and was going 30 mph down the road with it up and it survived with no problems. how long you can drive with it he did not say.

Lay out on ground upside down.. Assemble ...put in place on truck...alot easier...good video...👍

How is the temperature during the day - wondering if I could use it for my dogs while I’m traveling and not leave them in the cab of truck when I go do things they can’t go to?

@Toxic. M We have the tailgate down when the tent is up...you could certainly keep the door zipped closed, though. And I think with the window flaps open and some water available inside, the shade would probably be nice. You can't drive down the road with the tent up, though...so I am assuming you would be leaving the dogs with the tent and heading off to do things on foot? We have a cat that doesn't come with us, so I don't have experience with this issue. 😅

@Toxic. M Hopefully others will see your comment and offer some helpful advice. We have only used the tent since March, and the temperatures where we live have barely hit 90 degrees just recently. The tent hasn't gotten to hot for us to comfortably chill in during the day.

Have you tried your tent with your hardtop tonneau cover folded up?if so does it work?

@Stay Positive We haven't tried the tent up with the cover folded up...I just don't see how that would be possible. The rails for the tent need to rest on the edges of the truck bed. It isn't possible to slide those rails under the truck bed cover. It is a cool idea. 🙂 We were initially excited to see if it would work, but it's a question of two set ups needing the same space. 🤷‍♀️

Some of the other Truck Bed Tents i.e Napier etc. have an additional tent piece that you throw over the top and windows if rain is expected. Does the Kodiak have the same thing?

It’s a waterproof canvas that does well in rain and even light snow, there’s a KZread video of a guy camping in snow with 3-4 inches of snow on this tent, and it did just fine, in my opinion this is the best Truck bed tent on the market, you can also take this tent down and keep the three poles on the tent, and store it that way in the bed, that way, re-assembly only takes 5-10 minutes at the next campground

Are you using this tent with a tonneau cover? I've been wanting to get a tent so that I can just lay it down and then roll out my tonneau cover instead of having to pack the tent back into its carry case.

@ DR. G We don't exactly use it WITH the cover. But, yes...we do have a tonneau cover, and because of the cover we are able to store the tent in the bed of our truck without having to put it away between uses. When we put the tent up for use, we store our tonneau cover under our truck (we can't keep both the open tent and the cover on the truck bed at the same time). I hope this answers your question. :)

I have one Question does the Truck Bed tent come also for 8 foot Truck Beds, I only seen the Tents for shorter Truck Beds.

@Reiner Schneider You may have already found this out...but Kodiak does offer an 8ft version of the truck bed tent. According to their website, they are just out of stock at the moment. I hope this helps! We appreciate your comment. :)

We purchased a Kodiak Basic 10×14 a few weeks ago, we love it but we soon found out that it will not work in certain places....... so, we are on a waiting list for the truck tent for our GMC Canyon.

​@@BeingBarton Update, we have used our truck tent a few times..... It's been awesome! I posted a video on my ch. I posted on your review on your mattress in another video. I bought mine off the classifieds for $100. It's used, the guy seemed pretty honest. The blower works and it holds air. We're going to be taking a trip from Utah back to Michigan in a couple of weeks so we will see how it all works.

Nice review. Thinking about getting one of these. Getting tired of floppy nylon tents collpasing on me.

Do you like that air mattress? Ordered that, too. I also assume the tailgate's pull-out step-up assist won't work with this tent. Some F-150s have the built-in tailgate ladder. Is that true? Thanks for the video.

@Blake Frei Forgive the late response! That air mattress was TERRIBLE. We paid to return it. They sent us a mattress with an extender that didn't fit the mattress. And the internal battery didn't work. Our RAM doesn't have the step-up assist, so I can't answer to that. We appreciate your comment!

@@BeingBarton I took this tent camping. I can report that the step assist doesn't get in the way on the F-150. I also learned a couple of valuable lessons: Like all Kodiak tents, it's high-quality. Setup isn't as straightforward as a typical tent, so you have to follow the instructions closely. If you need your vehicle, you have to take the tent down, which is no fun. As for the mattress, it worked fine for me, but I don't think this truck-bed tent setup is good for two people. The wheel wells get in the way. I don't recommend this setup for husband/wife together. If you're single and you plan to park the truck the whole time, it's a great option.

I definitely agree that it's high quality, that it's a hassle to take the tent down and put it back up if you're using your vehicle during the day, and the air mattress would definitely be more suitable to one person. 🙃

Just another question. Did you do any additional waterproofing on the tent??

This is made for short-term camping trips 3-4 days max, cause any longer (2weeks +) & dispersed camping, you’ll have to dismantle & reassemble when you make a trip to nearest town, strictly short term, if it suits your purpose, go for it! Shalom!

Nice intro. I have a cheaper truck bed tent. Problem with these tent is you lose all your cargo space. To me, this set up works for max 2 people on a crew cab truck, so second row turns to storage and bed is reserved for the tent. I even had a extra cargo carrier that goes to the hitch receiver and it's still challenging to camp with 3 people.

@Mark Wang Ontario Yeah. We took this on a road trip to Arkansas...about 12 hours from our home in Georgia. We stored our cargo in bins with lids. And then we slid those bins under the truck while the tent was up. It was easy to slide out the bins and get what we needed without digging through one big pile in the truck. 😅

As you’ve gotten note familiar with the system, how long does it take to put up and take down?

@Drew We haven't used the tent at all in the last year. It's wonderful, and we love it...but there hasn't been a lot of adventuring going on. I really think this tent can easily be put up or taken down in under 10 minutes, so long as you don't have distractions. 😅

@@CAMAROZSS We planned on using this tent to escape on camping adventures as a family. As it happened, we became full-time hospice caregivers for my mom shortly after buying the tent. In the weeks and months following her passing, I underwent multiple surgeries with timely recoveries. We lost a bit of our adventurous spirit somewhere along the way. I hope we can find it again.

I love mine! This Summer I'm thinking I'll add a small window AC unit to truck roof top. just set it up there overnight, then blow some cold air into the front window of the tent opening. Cold ac should pass through the tent and vent out the back window. control the temp by adjusting the window vent openings. its Just a idea, hope it works

@@David-rx2to, it did work and worked good but I ran into a issue with the height of the AC unit sitting on top of the truck cab. With the tent set up completely, the front awning window extended out it aligned with the center of the blowing vents on the ac unit. Half in/half out kind of thing. The results was the cold air then would blow downward between the trucks back glass. I opened the lower cab window in the tent and had my air flow. What I then tried, was to not use the upper front awning cover at all. I removed the metal support rods and instead flipped the awning cover material back over the main tent. I then took two piece of wood and bridged the gap between the main tents top, carried that over to the top of the AC unit. Then covered that gap between the two with a tarp I purchased at Walmart. I used some larger black metal paper binder clips to secure everything. Worked out great for the over night stay in central Florida. That was the 1st of July on a hot summer night...…. I would give it a try! I'll took some photos next time of the set up. See if I can add them here. good luck, Love my tent!

Would it work if you have a toolbox on a 2015 f150

@derrick vain I don't have experience with the toolbox set-up, but if you can lay the rails for the tent along the frame of your truck bed, it will work. You need to be able to clamp the rails in place with clearance for the curved frame sections. I feel like having something permanently in the truck bed would prevent that from coming together, but maybe?

Start to finish how long did it take you to set up?? I’ll be buying this tent and going out with my wife

@Robert Nocera Jr. That's a good point. We've had folks express interest in knowing whether or not you can drive with the tent up. That's not possible for any meaningful distance. This is certainly more of a set-up then tear down overnight camping solution. Thanks for commenting. :)

For me a truck top would be in the way when not being used for camping. I cant have a top on my truck for all my normal everyday needs so having a giant truck topper setting around in the backyard is ugly and annoying. This is perfect for the 1 or 2 weeks of the year that I go camping and it would be a lot easier setting this up rather than fumbling with a big heavy topper for one special occasion.

Looks good but im both surprised and disappointed there was no mention of whether or not you can drive with the tent up.

@joe woodchuck It's not recommended. We would slowly drive from one campsite to another, but I wouldn't go more than 15 mph. It's sturdy enough for a very slow, short ride. That's my opinion.

@@BeingBarton I wonder what it would take to get the design more fully capable. As nice as this one is Id want one I could travel with. No military canvas top needs to come down for travel, so it is feasible. It would mostly be in the frame design thinking about it. I've done plenty of transport of covered merchandise using a plastic tarp on my open utility trailer. I used a million straps and bungee cords, but given that my plastic tarp has only a fraction of strength of the nice canvas tarp shown here, there's nothing to suggest that it can't be done. I've seen any number of other people do the same to one level of success or another. The main reason I'm talking about it is that my utility trailer could conceivably be set up with a frame supported tarp. I have made a pvc frame for stationary use already. It served as a practice run for something much stronger to use as covered transport later on. I wanted to use pvc as a proof of concept and to check shape, size, etc. It also allows for a little dry storage of things occasionally kept in the trailer.

@@joewoodchuck3824 The canvas material is definitely strong enough to take a beating... it's one of the main reasons we bought this tent. The headroom being another big factor. With the right modifications to the frame, I could absolutely see this being suitable for travel with the tent up.

😂 I shaved off my super long hair. And it was fun having a mohawk while it grew back. Pancreatic cancer came for my mom...we shaved our heads together before chemo started. 🤘 She passed Christmas Eve. My hair is growing back. I remember the mohawk fondly. 💞

@Yukon12guage It's not bad once you get more comfortable with it. Maybe 15 minutes? The kids are getting older and like to help with things more, so that's nice. The take down can be kind of fun if the kids are in a good mood. 🤣

Running around with not one but two suckers in her mouth. That's heartbreak waiting to happen. Especially running outside on concrete 😩
