That last part with Byron Scott was great. It's crazy to think how it came full circle with him coaching Kobe his last couple seasons. He knew early on Kobe was gonna be a once in a generation player and man did he prove him right and then some.

I love that Kobe had that Showtime Lakers connection through Byron Scott, the last of the Showtime Lakers. Kobe’s rookie year was Scott’s final year in the NBA as a player.

Now I sit here and tell myself, before you came a long.. my mentality was already on attack mode and if injured, still go out there and kick ass.. You came into our lives and that mentality became...MAMBA MENTALITY.... were you came from, the color of skin, the money you made and you being a celebrity.. that didn't matter one bit.. I saw that IT factor in you, and that is what made me a fan and being able to connect with you.... miss you mamba... it all started in 96..#8 .....R.I.P...🐍

KOBE. There was nothing like watching him play live in his early NBA days- man, he was lightening quick, explosive and fast and smooth and brilliant!! He was extremely intelligent (of course)-- way beyond his years that was largely unappreciated by some of his peers early on due to petty jealousies. But Byron Scott knew... he knew. My heart breaks for KOBE, Gianna... Vanessa..the families. 😥🙏🏿🎚

This comment right here tells me you didn't actually see Kobe's rookie year. He played behind Eddie Jones, whom at the time was an all-star. Robert Horry and Jerome Kersey occupied the SF so he couldn't spot any valuable playing time there either. Del Harris even played him at PG during parts of the season to give him some run time. Kobe averaged about 15 mpg during his rookie campaign. Brandon Ingram averaged close to 30 mins last year and averaged 9 points. No argument at all.
