That pin is to brace pieces like circles, curves etc to give you stability otherwise you use the fence for straight pieces.

I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great kzread.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

I mounted mine on a rolling cart with locking wheels. It works great there. Also bought a clear plastic box to put all the extra parts in and put it on the bottom tray of the cart. And I have my trim router and plunge router in their cases on that tray also. It's my router station, everything I need in one location. Great video!

Starter pin used to keep work piece steady when starting corners. Take out when using Miter square or fence. Be very careful with switch, mine is on table top like in video, and my pocket on my shirt gets under it and turns on router when I am changing bits, only did it once, always, always unplug. before making any adjustments. Great video.

I bought one recently and think it was the best deal on the market. FYI, The plastic dust collection piece you mentioned, is not for use when used in the table, but when you are using freehand. That is why you cannot adjust the height with it on the table.

Thanks! Just wanted you to know your video was very helpful to me even a year & a half+ after you made it. Your newness to it all was refreshing after about 200 expert videos forgetting to fill me in on what the fuss was about. I love the Kobalt cordless tools & miter saw i got Xmas 2019. Had to get the Ryobi cordless router cuz no KobALT yet. I have some (well many) medical limitations & all of my new tools and gadgets are to hopefully help me return to building. Still in the planning stages, i realized a small router table might be a necessity for me for even simple things like grooves and rabbits. Was thinking of building a small table for the cordless. But happy to find your video & see another option. it's great that you take the time to share this content; it exhausts me to think of the extra work that goes into filming, editing etc. hard work that is exhausting in itself. i will 👍and share & check out your other videos & consider subscribing. I just bought this because my craftsman set up like it died and I cant afford the festool yet. The price is right at 169.00 and the fact that you can adjust the bit height from the top is a step up for me! Cant wait to have a reason to use it. Likely the end of this week with some unexplainable window trimming

@@rockman49er That's a drag.. It's still worth it though. I used it to notch some pretty big chunkage out of some trim I made using the fence set up. The dust collection was pretty darn good. Machine volume is acceptable.. I also used a round over bit with a bearing and that little guide pin it comes with was real handy for a little more stability. One little thing I had going on that I thought was the set up but, nope it was me... I was doing another dado with a long bit and did not insert the bit real far down into the collet. This made me have to lower the router really far and it would fall out of the housing. After some pissing and moaning I assessed the situation and realized what I did then I sat the bit deeper and problem solved. I LOVE BEING ABLE TO RAISE AND LOWER THE ROUTER FROM THE TOP!! For me this was such a game changer.. I hope to god I don't lose that crank hex key

Nice job. I was looking for a router table and went with this Kobalt because of reviews. Was very happy when I went to my local store and the price on the shelf said reduced to $129. Haven't used the table yet but I have used the router with the edge guide and it worked great. Was adding some T groves to my work bench so I could lock my drill press down. I did lose a little control at the end when looking for the power switch so just a slight mess up but for what it is it is fine. Next I plan on making a drill press table so want some more T groves to make it adjustable. Wish the fence would allow for a bigger distance from the router bit. I'd like to go 3 1/2" off the edge but the piece is too small to use the router free hand. Guess I will have to clamp a temporary board on there to give me the fence distant I need.

Glad you are enjoying it and thanks for watching. Using a board or a saw track is a great idea to keep your grooves nice and straight. I think the switch is a bit awkward for free hand use and the soft start is nice but it could deffinately use adjustible speed. For those reasons I will be using it only when attached to the table as I have another router for free hand. Again thanks for watching!

Thanks Andrew, lots of great fantastic tips. I did notice that the spacer insert was poorly formed and as a result the spacer surface was a bit off center with the hole.. i'm thinking its not an issue other than if if i press down on the spacer it pushes through the hole where my finger is pressing down. btw i did find this on starter pins: "The starter pin forms a fixed point that you use to pivot the part into the cutter, providing leverage that allows you to ease the stock into the router bit."

I just bought one of these, and it’s great, but with a few drawbacks. The fence is hard to calibrate, and the plastic inserts aren’t quite flush with the aluminum table top. But for that price point, I’m very happy with it!

I agree that the fence is hard to calibrate but it did get easier with time and with my use I realized I was being too picky. The plastic bothered me too I was told that it is designed that way so that you can use the table as a jointer. However, I cant speak to this as I have not tried to use it in that manor. Great video, although I may be a year+ late. Anyway, I couldn’t go through all the comments but were the tabletop dimensions listed? I’m fairly new to woodworking and planning on making my first ‘small’ workbench to accommodate my table and mitre saw. This can compliment it by placing it on other end. Also, tabletop appears smooth so like my tables saw, I can drop it down and keep the complete workbench flat and with plenty of workspace.

Thanks for watching and I'm glad I was able to help. The most common use for the Miter Gauge is if you are trying to route the end of a long piece you can set the to 0 and use it to support your work and move it smoothly and evenly across the fence. Beyond that I still have some learning and research to do. I will do a fallow up review and overview after I've had time to work with the table. Hopefully that will be within the next couple of weeks. Thanks again and have a good day.

Im just getting into a bit more serious wood working and am making a bunch of wooden tool boxes and typically id just cut out the end sides with a jigsaw and use my spindle sander to creep up on the curved line for the pattern but Im looking for something easier/faster and a more even finished end result. Not sure if this router table would fit that bill or not. I use a template and can get really close to the pencil lines with the jigsaw but the sanding can take 20 minutes or so and often leaves flatter edges here and there....then more sanding. If I used my jigsaw to get close then used my template on top of the new piece would this make shorted and better results?

This is my first router so hope you make some videos on projects using it. I see your a Kobalt guy, I am too, I have had good luck with their tools. One question, did you leave the little screw out of the router clamp so you can raise and lower the bit higher? In the video it looks like you are just moving that clamp down without tightening or loosening a screw.

I haven't been able to get any more videos of projects done because we have about a foot of snow outside and my shed is still very cold. So about the adjustments I made... Once the router is seated in the base you should be able to release the locking clamp and then make your adjustments. Once you have the bit where you want it simply re engage the clamp. I hope I explained this good enough. If I didn't or if I misunderstood the question just let me know. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I have this one too and think for a $120 or so it is a much better deal than the other one in that price range by HF. Mostly because you can remove the router and use it freehand. I found the HF 9 piece template set fits this router base without modification and the HF Inlay Bushing set also fits. Regarding speed control I did remove the soft-start circuit board from the Kobalt router so it could be used with an external router speed control (as you know external speed controls won't work with soft start routers). I wanted to use the router with a fairly large sash bit and didn't want the bit to spin up to 28K RPMs - I tested the HF router/speed control and it does work through the speed ranges although I have not yet tried feeding stock through it under load. Unfortunately the soft-start logic board is integral with the triode that increases power to accommodate load in the Kobalt router so I'm not sure it is going to work in the end - some have said the router will spin up but won't have any power when running through the HF external speed control. Romoving the circuit board is pretty easy and it just unplugs so no cutting or unsoldering is necessary. I did have to make up some short patch cables to connect the windings to the power cord and ground wire after removing the circuit board.

kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2uqpdpmqay1gJuy.htmlo, sorry but this is one video I watched that was helpful - even though it is a different router it was similar enough. On the Kobalt there are only two wires to hook up (besides the ground wire) and the board comes out in one piece. The router works without the board installed at all and you needn't cut any wires - it can be put back in if needed. Remember, I have not tested my router under load - it does spin up and the HF speed controller works just fine, but it is possible it won't have enough power at the RPM setting I need for the big router bits.( edit: I see the word "no" was concatenated with the youtube address by youtube, so please remove the "n" and "o" at the end of that youtube link.

What exactly did you do with it, thinking about picking one of these up while it’s still on sale right now at Lowes and saw a good deal on FB market place for the Kobalt table saw thinking of getting it. I will say that I'll give Kobalt a 10 out if 10 all day everyday. As a router/table combo it's a 10/10 for my needs, construction, and value. However I don't have and haven't used another table to compare it to. As a stand alone router I give it a 6/10 it would be great for occasional use. But for heavy use I prefer a router with a plunge base and adjustable speed when using it free hand. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

@@lumberhacks3528 Calling out that you haven't compared to another piece is particularly useful: I know you use a Bosch plunge router, so you have that comparison. Humans are approximately terrible at cardinal evaluation, hence why things are "great", "good", "neutral", "Bad", "very bad" and why things between two other options are often rated as half-way or as very close to some other option: nobody can really get a scientific number down. What humans EXCEL at is ordinal ranking. X is better than Y. X might even be twice as good as Y, if you can compare X reasonably in that way (like a hamburger is better than two hotdogs, but if it comes down to three you're taking the three hotdogs-food is food and the amount you enjoy better food versus more not-quite-as-good food is kind of intuitive). That's still not scientific, and only the actual order matters, except that people are quite able to say that things are VERY different or SLIGHTLY different, and that those differences matter more or less…than lesser differences? The art of review is hard because of all this. Most people aren't exposed to several things; and even when they are, many folks don't consider e.g. if your needs are X, then this one's fine, but this other one is better in ways that matter when you're doing other things. The cardinal vs. ordinal debate is pretty huge in voting systems. In any case, looks like this is adequate for my needs, and it's cheap, so I'll get one.

I would not expect anyone to take my word on this over a more expensive piece of equipment or my work over someone with years of experience. Overall, this table gets good reviews on the Canadian Tire site. Thing is , just like the other table, it has a single speed and at 25k rpm is too much for the large bits. has anyone had any problems with the router moving up or down on its own while on the table? My first one did it so I took it back now the second one is doing it. any ideas?

I haven't had that issue. The only thing I could think of is to tighten the locking clamp. I'll take another look at it and get back with you.

Sorry for getting back to you so late but I can't think of anything that would cause the slip or how to stop it. the only thing I can think of is grab firmly on the router and pull it downward before engaging the clamp. This will ensure it's seated properly. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help and if I experienced a problem or find another way to help I will drop another reply.

im looking for that too. i did my first rabbet box and you can tell the depth on two adjacent sides is just a split hair different. not bad, but begs the question...

Travis Atkinson if you mean the bit itself keeps moving up and down (like while in use) then it sounds like you arnt tightening it enough, just make sure to tighten it down on the bit more. If you mean the entire router itself, then it sounds like you arnt closing the clamp/door to the adjusters, which will make it easy to fall.

To make this variable speed, you can get a variable speed foot pedal.

Can you set the speed with a variable foot pedal?

Does anyone know how to resolve my issue with this router table...? On the table top, there's screws towards the opening, they are scratching my wood as I pass it across. I've sunken them down as far as they can go. Is there a way to resolve this without putting tape over them?

if its the screw head that's sticking out it means: A) you mis-assembled the table and used the wrong screws in that spot, happens to the best of em.. B) there was a problem with the manufacturing but it can likely be easily corrected by taking a countersink drillbit and just making the countersink go a bit deeper. easy to do by hand.. if its the threads that you're running into, you can just remove the screw temporarily and grind it down a bit. hope this helps jmo ymmv... :)

You probably did the same thing that I did. You don't use the round top screws that hold the router base plate onto the router. They include the flat top screws for attaching the router to the table and they sit way below the surface of the table.

Have you tried installing other routers on that table?🤔 other tables are for the same price. This one just comes with a free router

I bought this for my dad and didn't realize it had no bits with it. My lowes doesn't sell kobalt bits. What other brand will fit?? I know nothing about these products.

Cassy Bohl most brands such as Craftsman and Bosch will work. Just be sure the shank size is 1/4 or 1/2”. This router will use either.

Yep... as Happy Trails said any brand will fit as long as it is 1/4 or 1/2 shank bits. I bought the 1/2 Skill multi set. Thanks for watching.
