Every match should just start in a referees grip, and if theres a slip its referee grip strap match... it would save a lot of down time in matches and make it a better veiwing experience

It is very rare that there's no ref's grip, but it's also part of the sport. The idea is to grow the sport, not limit it. Either way it's a great way to wear the opponent down a bit, or to get a read on the opponent and what they want from the grip. Sometimes they're happy to give something as long as they get something else that they find more important. Sometimes they both feel that the ref's grip is disadvantageous to them. Actually I think the best part of not starting in a ref's grip is the entertainment. It's a great time for a lot of shenanigans to happen, that can't happen in a ref's grip. WHICH then really feeds into the mentality side of armwrestling, and making the opponent feel less capable or less in-control and stuff. Devon's shenanigans for instance mostly live within the initial grip-up before the ref's grip, and he puts a lot of effort into his objectives there, regardless of whether they go to ref's grip or not. He can also create so much chaos that it isn't infrequent that he gets to start outside of ref's grip; "JUST SAY GO!" lol. People say the same thing with starting in straps every time, which is a far more terrible idea that starting in ref's grip, but yea.
