Another excellent discussion guys. Gonky, instead of "I don't care what others think about me." Try stating what I think you might mean. I certainly could be wrong. One of the life changing idea I learned a long time ago is, "What other people think about me is none of my business." The difference is both great and very subtle. I became comfortable with living how I think is right for me without considering what others might say or think. None of my business. Right? I do actually care what others choose to tell me about me that I may or may not realize. I bet you do too. Who it comes from, how it's presented, the intention, and lots of other things people might clue you into how they think about you, can be incredibly important. Good feedback is always useful to us. Play with the idea, or not, and see what comes up. I'm just some random old goober on the interwebs after all.

Also, If at all practical: Get a dog. Seriously. You will receive complete acceptance and love no matter what. I am convinced that dogs improve mental health

Wishing you strength and fortitude to endure this challenge. (I'm right there with ya, recovering from heartbreak, myself -- it's brutal.) This sounds cheesy - but I made a note and stuck it to my fridge: "Be the sunshine☀️" -- it reminds me that my energy comes from within. You've got this! 💛☀️

@@darkredrose7683 Thanks! 💛☀️ Yes, we will make it through! Some good breakup & moving on songs help (even if the situation is figurative, not a person): 'Bye Bye' - Jo Dee Messina, and 'Prayed For You' - Matt Stell. We're on that "heartbreak trail" & "highway to hell" right now, but pray & have faith that better days await. Somewhere out there, some day we'll meet the one who prayed to find us, too.

Excellent topic, guys! Adding my 2 cents: I think knowing your self worth is necessary, but simply knowing is not enough. Deciding to take action to preserve and/or build our self worth is critical. Doug is so right - some will seek to exploit our worth, and action will need to be taken to prevent complete destruction. To Gonky's point - spiritual insight can help us discern our path and identify counterfeit friends or partners who might seek to exploit us. Adding to Mover's point: like Ron Swanson would do, toss that fake bacon in the trash! If someone is only ever offering you crumbs...fake bacon 😉, know your worth and take action to remove yourself from their presence. Knowing our worth doesn't mean we'll never suffer pain or a fall, but when we practice taking action in line with our worth (tossing that fake crap people offer us to exploit us into the trash) the damage will be minimal, and the recovery quicker. Now I want bacon 🥓I'm worth it!

try living with a narcissist for 40 years and finding it out after 39 years, thinking they just had a bad temper.Yes, we are all flawed . Now that they need me because of their health, I have no choice but to stay to take care of them and not abandon them to a nursing home.I have to live with myself. 🙄 Yes, been reading my NLT new living translation for over 35 years. Thanks for your witness. I've always had self worth even though my father was also very mean and hateful of me and name calling and belittling me until I went into the navy in 76. He never affected me even as a child. Correction on God given talents that ever one says...1 Corinthians 12:11 New Living Translation 11 It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. 🙂 Peace.
