Know Your Rights! Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Migraine

Episode 121: Are you aware of your rights as a person with migraine, cluster headache, or another debilitating headache condition when it comes to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)? Are you looking for answers to; what the process is like, how much time is allowable, or when you need to notify your employer?
The National Headache Foundation has dedicated three episodes to (1) Family and Medical Leave Act, (2) Americans with Disabilities Act, and (3) Social Security Disability for people with headache conditions.
This week Lindsay Weitzel, PhD, begins this 3-part series by asking Tom Dabertin, Executive Director and CEO of the National Headache Foundation all the pertinent questions for someone who may need to take time from work for their headache condition, or to care for a loved one for this reason. You may want a pen and paper for this episode on FMLA!
Follow the National Headache Foundation's podcast HeadWise, as host Lindsay Weitzel, PhD, has informative discussions with headache experts on the latest treatment, research, lifestyle recommendations, and personal stories about living with migraine disease and headache disorders. I don't know if you can get to this question or not. But I had my FMLA approved before but ran out of my 6 month approved time off, so I asked my neurologist to fill out the FMLA paperwork again. I resubmitted everything to HR (I work for the Department of VA) on 8/7/23 for approval. But called out for the condition on 8/10/23 I knew I was still in the process of getting it approved. My supervisor at first was going to allow me to use my remaining SL and AL to cover my full day. I even told him that I would have use FMLA is my request was approved. He knew about the request on the 8/7. But he was over-written by our Chief of the Department and to mark me Leave without pay for 2.5 hours. My final approval from HR was on 8/16/2023, should I request to have everything changed to FMLA-SL and AL? I know they are not suppose to relate against me but my Chief doesn't want me here because of all the time off I have requested because of my condition. I think it was a legal way to hurt me.

If i feel a migraine coming on early, at the first sign, I'll take 3-4 grams of organic kratom. Not that gas station garbage, not a head shop product. But a quality, organic, tested for pesticides and heavy metals kratom and I'll feel the migraine blow over or change course. I describe it as watching a storm coming in and then passing me by. If I'm to late then yeah, my vision gets starry and i find a quiet place and hope to die. But catch it early enough and kratom is a miracle. It's a leaf. It's not bad for you. 3-4 grams of leaf powder for men 1-2 grams for women. Take to much and you'll wish you didn't. Less is more. Too much makes you stomach sick. I'd recommend where i get mine but then you'd think I'm just trying to sell you stuff and i want you to get the relief i get. I won't tarnish my recommendations with what you may construe as a sales pitch. Good luck
