This seems like a senior doctor you don't want to work under lol. He's driving away potential new residents with his toxic workaholic mindset. There's a difference between working hard and getting burned out (which is a formal diagnosis btw). I hope you can get another em specialist for a fresh view regarding this field.

Haha, you can always check others' perceptions of the dept, the views are multiple. Yes there is a difference between working hard and burnout,, both are more in this dept. It depends on the perception of a candidate. If you are a pt attendant you will think how particular I am in treating pt, if you see from my inexperienced junior Drs you'll feel why this person is so particular. There is '0' tolerance in this field, anything anytime and anyone can go wrong. Everything is for the pt centred approach, some will gain satisfaction by operating and saving lives, and some will get it by doing anything and saving lives. If you are not exposed, worked, or studied enough during residency believe me there is nothing you can learn after that. No residency is easy, or for only keeping a table, BP apparatus and practice MBBS or even RMP can do, no need for specialisation. And if a person distracts from his passion/dept just by listening to some video it is not their cup of tea from the beginning itself. I believe in all or none phenomenon,, either adapt or don't join,, it is not a place to sit and see OP cases and call for a review.

Every year So many students resign their pg seats due to the toxic work environment, its not that they don't want to work, infact they have really worked hard and sacrificed many things in life for that seat but at the end they end up either giving hefty penalty and leaving that seat or committing suicide. We are made to work whole day like robots, why??? Why is it made so casual that the pg residents can't have a life? Senior Doctors like you have suffered the same and so they want the juniors to go through the same rather then trying to change the system.

If you gonna use the word toxicity, EM is the least in that. And basically its not the faculty or seniors stressing up the students. Have you ever seen a calm OBGY, some depts basically are stressful (physical +mental). And if you are not liking it you can't cope up how ever it is. For example I can get a mentally and physically exhausted in an Avg load Paediatric Dept, I can't continue in it. So its basically so many factors leading to distress. Can't only blame exterior things, but also have to check internal factors. So choosing a dept is v v vital. The same people who are so concerned about the residents, will you agree to have your family member/friend treated by a half knowledgeable/skillful person. Do you agree if no action taken to correct the resident to not repeat the mistake again...?

You can open ICU or OP clinic but you are not trained. For ICU extra training is necessary in Critical Care Medicine. No broad speciality is eligible for opening ICU. CCM is available in SS DNB, DM, FNB.

Working hours will be according to the no. of SRs and Asst prof available in the dept. For majority it'll be 6-6-12

Sir, i have seen some MD anesthesia docs practicing as emergency specialist in some corporate hospitals. How is that possible sir, do they have to do some other fellowships? I am confused in choosing between anesthesia and EM sir. I liked working in casualty. I can get a seat in pvt clgs in Bangalore for EM n govt seat in Anaesthesia sir. Can u advise me on this?

EM and Anaesthesia are a complete different depts even there are some overlapping procedures, the processes are different. Go to the established depts nearby and choose what are you passionate of doing.

It's better to do anesthesia first. Nd if u work in er 6 months in ER U can learn ...EM very acute field only doing EM u won't have broad knowledge,it's like knowing only something in everything nothing perfect

​@@irfanzubair7556Good thing is that you got to know Anaesthesia is a broad specialty, many of the Drs don't recognise it. And the sad part is you are in the Drs who don't know that EM is also a broad specialty. Yes EM deals with something about everything, that something will save life, that something will be a support to a family where 5-6 specialits won't be available at an odd time to a hospital.
