Speciality for adrenaline junkies. Emergency medicine is one of the top paying speciality for a fresh passout DNB/MD post graduate today. Lot of opportunities in India and abroad. In present situation Radiology and EM are the top paid specialities. More opportunities in south india.

Agree with your first statement, disagree with the second. In the emergency dept, you need doctors with quick thinking who are trained to handle medicine, obgyn, surgical, psychiatric and all other types of emergencies. If you have already done md in med, you'll be wasting a lot of your knowledge of long term management of a disease. You'll also need to learn new things regarding emergencies of other fields that you are not trained to handle. Person having indepth knowledge of surgery will be pretty much useless in case of psychiatric emergencies. Having more knowledge does not make someone the best choice for emergencies. Attitude, experience, quick thinking is more important. There's nothing wrong in only seeing tip of the iceberg. End goal is best care for the patient. Md medicine wont be able to manage Emergency dept. What's the point of an md medicine handling emergency room. He won't apply most of his knowledge anyway, and will need to learn new things about how to manage er, something that md emergency graduates already know.
