Mikko, I love all your work, just some more than others this is one of them. My only regret is that I did not come across you sooner. Keep up the good work, it is very much apreciated.A cup of coffee a month is a small price for the hours of frustration you have saved me. Thank's again.

Thank you for your kind words, cheers!
Mikko- I seem to be an abysmal failure at tying knots on my hand so I tried to do this following Tom Halls video. It wasn’t until I watched your video that I truly understood the flow of the knot. I still tie on a mandrel but after 10+ attempts I can tie it, from memory, without pins or other crutches. My point: YOUR WAY of patient illustration, with a minimum of verbiage, is still among the best when it comes to teaching knot tying. Donald.

Very nice. Enjoyed this demo a lot. It's no easy matter for an expert to patiently explain all the simple steps to a beginner. Planning to use it on a small fid in my kit. Thank you.
This was beautiful to watch. I am new to your channel and look forward to watching more episodes (old & new). Cheers.
G'day from Australia mate. Absolutely loving your tutorials. My kids even know the sound of your voice coming from my office. 🇦🇺😉

Excellent. Interesting subject and clear presentation.
Thank you for your video. It took me a few tries to get it right but we’ll worth the effort. The ABON is a brilliant book but not always easy to understand.

Thanks, couldn't discover remedy for those annoying gaps when covering a "Knob Shape."
Professionally done 👌
Thanx for share miko
The best way to make glob knots 🪢 is whit a glob knot mandrel !!! Look like a stick whit holes & pins, the pins you can place it in the holes gives different patterns & you can make lot of different glob knots !
Great work! I know it's quite in-depth, but I would love to see a video on fancy/pattern plaiting like what we see on that awesome red and green fid box!

@@mikkosnellman That's even better! I have done a bit of handle plaiting for whips and whatnot, but I've never heard of this process. Thank you for the info, know that I know what it's called I am able to find some info and tutorials on the process. Seems like the kind of thing I could become obsessed with doing.

I would love to have your Kringle mat jig and what size rope did you use in this video?
I think, proper hard laid cord will ease up the process significantly. Thank you for another great Video.

Did I miss something or did you do TWO passes with the red cord, one on each side of the 3 bights?

Excellent, inspirational and informative. I would like to ask you one question, if I may. It feels presumable that you dipped the knot in linseed oil. Is that a practice you follow for most of your knot work? It had never occurred to me and I find it very smart.
@mikkosnellman
3 жыл бұрын
That was shellac, not linseed oil. If the knotwork needs to be hard or protected, I often use shellac. Linseed oil grows mildew on cotton easily.
Wonderful. Thank you.
I have had a couple of trial runs on this using paracord. I am expecting my new cherry wood fid today and want to cover the end with some hard-laid cotton cord using this technique. I would appreciate some tips on fairing and dressing the knot.
@mikkosnellman

Just make sure you have enough coverage and dress very carefully with several passes. This covering can be easily over tight.
@davidbondy8340

@@mikkosnellman - Thank you. Very good advice. I definitely over-tightened my first attempt which meant that the definition of the passes was lost. A very fine line and patience is the key I think.
