This video is one of the most interesting that i have seen on this subject. Before this i have used cardboard tubes and paper pins but this will be a lot more durable. Thanks a lot Mark

Those are called “brad point” drill bits. Another time saver would be to clamp a piece of wood at least half the thickness of the pipe to the drill press table. Measure from the drill point over half the diameter of the pipe and place the edge of the wood there when you clamp it. When you drill through the top of the pipe, just keep going and drill the opposite side at the same time, then slide the pipe forward to the next hole and repeat, etc.. If you are making multiple mandrels, screw the piece of wood to a piece of plywood and mark a line squared off of the first board, and mark a location on that line for a hole half the diameter of the pipe from the edge of board 1. You can use that hole to locate the jig on your drill press table, then using the first line as the starting point, mark on the plywood where the end of the pipe will be for drilling each hole. Takes much longer to explain than it does to do, but it’s a huge timesaver because all you have to mark on the pipe is two lines showing the centerlines of two rows! Great video!

Make the wood into a template so you don't have to keep measuring (If your making more than one)? Just transfer marks on the wood to the pipe?

Nicely done and useful. Just one critique. "Mark" is obviously not a native English speaker, and he continually uses the term "opposite" when he should say "parallel". Once you adapt to this quirk in his speech understanding what he is doing goes much easier.

You say 3/8" but you were measuring centimetres. Don't pander to the Yanks! 8-) A metal saw is a bit of overkill for PVC. My local hardware store has ratcheting PVC pipe cutters that do the trick much more cleanly than a saw.

I reckon that most people have no need for a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter, but will have access to, or own, a saw. Buying the ratcheting tool is an expensive extravagance for the vast majority of us. I know that the handy people amongst us may consider buying the cutter which would come in handy for some basic plumbing jobs around the home aswell as making this kind of mandrel, but for most, it's too much wasted money

@@mattsadventureswithart5764 The PVC pipe cutter was less than $20 IIRC, so not an expensive extravagance (?) and if you have neither to start with.... 8-)
