So many good and exciting things in this episode! I had so much fun at the first Knitty McPurly retreat and would highly recommend it. I met so many genuinely nice people, and the optional classes were fantastic. I love how the new colors go together. Charlotte’s bowl turned out great! Happy to hear that you had a wonderful birthday vacation. 🥳

So lovely to see your video today. Your sweater is beautiful, I think it is the colours of the yarn which bring the design alive. As an English style knitter I knit colour work with the background colour in my right hand and the second colour in my left and knit it continental style. 🇬🇧

I have to admit I was lost last Sunday without you but I’m happy you enjoyed a well deserved vacation. My birthday was today 3/10, and it was a lovely day with my grandkids. I love the new color way and I’m considering a sock set since I’ve become addicted to sock knitting. Charlotte was just adorable and as a Grandma, I would love that bowl - a treasure of the heart.❤️

So glad you had a nice vacation! I’m with you on the color dominance thing. I totally don’t get it and it takes the fun out of the knitting to be so OCD about it. I’m so impressed with Charlotte’s crochet, she did a great job! Judith’s story is why I’m not concerned with AI taking over the world 😂 Prayers for your husband’s surgery on Friday ❤

Apparently I should’ve reserved commenting until watching the whole episode…so many good things here! (In addition to the new balm scent) 1) Charlotte’s bowl for Grandma turned out great! Also, I miss Gigi! 2) The March colorway and River Rock are absolutely gorgeous…which is making my yarn diet extremely difficult…. 3) Judith’s story this week was fantastic! I also love to travel AND get yarn to remember my trips when I can. Luckily, my husband indulges me when we do travel…I even made it to 4 or 5 yarn stores when we went to Scotland last August! 4) I live in Ohio and have been to Black Locust in Lodi a few times. It’s a great store with a wide selection. Unfortunately, they have limited hours, but I’m glad the owner opened specifically to let Judith (and Monica!) shop! 5) I find the same issue when looking for yarn shops when traveling…many fabric stores are put into the results…luckily for me, my hubby is an avid sewist, so it always works out for us! 6) Finally, I’m really hoping I can make it to the retreat next year…it may be my birthday present to myself!

Hi Devin! I don’t really see yarn dominance either! I am a thrower but learned continental many years ago because I wanted to be faster. I’m still faster as a thrower though, but now I can knit colorwork with one color in each hand. Keeps my tension great and easy to catch floats. So much fun stuff going on at Knitty Mcpurly!

It's always great to watch your new episode. Your new river rock colorway is amazing. I love the March colorway so much, too. Char's little bowl is so darn cute. She's been bitten by the crochet bug. I had such a great time meeting new people at your first retreat. I'm looking forward to next year's. Looks like you had a fun birthday/girls weekend away.

DEVON! Thank you so much for the shout-out. I’m so glad you like them. I’m excited to line all the socks up next to each other at the end of the year. SOMEHOW, I lost one of my February socks! What? I think this proves that there is a gremlin in our house eating socks. Because I always put my hand knits in a particular spot, and it still went missing somehow! This probably sounds ridiculous, but I’m going to go back and knit another one because I still have plenty of the February color of the month left, and it’s just that important to me to have them all at the end of the year. I can’t wait for March’s color to be here! I am about to place my order for the March color and then I’m just going to get full skeins of dusty and the new river rock color- because I’m going to knit a bunch of Mother’s Day socks for my best best best friends with it. Thanks for another great podcast! We missed you last week but I'm glad you had a good trip!

Welcome back Devin. Glad you had a great time with your besties. Will be praying for your husband. I had surgery on my back a few years ago. So i feel for him. I'm with ya on the time change. I get up a 4am to go to work, and I'll tell ya, you kind of drag alittle bit thru the day. Love you new color! So beautiful. Had to purchase some already. I do color work with both hands. Thats the way I was taught. I am an english style knitter. Now doing more than 2 colors is quiet a problem for me. Did miss your podcast last week, but glad you had fun and glad to see you back.

I’m looking forward to getting some Sanctum! I get some amazing soap from an Orthodox monastery that smells like incense. I love the churchy smells. Also, I love River Rock and will need to figure out what to make with it. I love a good brown. I also have a husband who doesn’t like to travel so we tend to argue about vacations, and he didn’t even go on the last one I planned. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the AYC retreat, and of course, I want to attend yours! Grapevine is a good choice as I lived there many, many years ago. I’ll need to go to El Fenix!

I very much see color dominance and I can readily tell. It's very easy to do, just a matter in being consistent with how you hold your yarn or choose to hold your yarn. I love in a multiple color work sweater piece thinking about the parts I want to pop and the parts I do not.

I’m a continental knitter who does my colorwork using both hands. That’s the most comfortable way for me. I guess I am fairly proficient doing both continental and English methods although I’m much slower with English purling than I am with continental purling. I’m with you. I’ve read all the information about the importance of color dominance, but I really don’t see that it makes much difference. Usually I do my background color in my left hand and the accent color in my right hand. For consistency. But I don’t get my panties in a twist about it 😂 Missed you. Glad you had a fun trip

I just joined this morning. Love your site! I see you went to Ave Maria. My favorite place to go. Hopefully you went into Secret Ingredient Boutique. Maybe you were able to attend the style show/luncheon. I no longer live in Florida so I don’t visit Ave Maria anymore. Your story about the lady visiting Lodi, Ohio touched me as well. I lived in that area for 33 years. I truly miss Amish country. You have a new subscriber and going to visit your online shop. Charism scent will be in my bag.

I am also a Continental knitter who holds two colors, one in each hand. My left hand normally has a tighter tension than the right, but both are getting closer to one another. I'm so glad to hear that others have the same stranded colorwork tension challenges that I do. I have to admit, I'm a little jelly of the VA knitters meet-up! Are there any Central-to-Easter NC knitters who want to venture out for a localish meet-up? As far as the retreat Facebook group, for knitters on Insta - anyone up for a chat group? I killed my FB page right before the pandemic, but I still want to chat will all of you! (And Devin, you're right, the Google mail serve was a lot last time.) 💛💛💛

First, your color of the month is a real beauty! Second, oh my goodness, I figured there was something wrong with me not being able to see the color dominance at all! Anyhow, I'm a colorwork newbie continental knitter trying to improve enough to knit as pretty a sweater as you are wearing or the one your knitting.

  • @skhoyt6024
    @skhoyt60244 ай бұрын

I do colorwork with both hands and the color I hold in my left hand (yarn will lay under the other one) will stand out as dominant, so I hold what I think of as the accent color in that hand and the background color in the other. I suspect the color dominance will show up more with some knitters than others, depending on how they knit. I would love to come to the retreat, but hubby reacted to the cost, especially when added to what the airfare looks like it will be. I know things are expensive all around and the price is the best it can be, so I’m not criticizing it. I am going to pray all week and revisit it with my husband next weekend and trust the result to God’s influence. Prayers for your husband this week too. 🙏

Your new color is so sophisticated and gorgeous! And that March colorway… 🤤 Also thank you for your comments about color dominance in stranded knitting. I totally agree. I just can’t be bothered! I swear I heard Arne and Carlos say once that there is no concept of color dominance in Norwegian knitting, so I went with that. After all, if the Norwegians aren’t the kings of colorwork knitting, I don’t know who is…right? 😊

I would be interested to know what started your knitting retreat? It sounds amazing. I have been to several knitting conventions and fiber festivals as a vendor employee: it was so awesome to go without having to pay for it, but since I was working I didn't get to mingle or learn or absorb the vibe, but I always enjoyed meeting all the knitters and crafters that came into our booth. :)

Hi Patti! There was early registration for people who attended the last retreat. But don’t worry - there are plenty of slots left when regular registration opens on Friday! You book your own hotel room, so you can stay there alone for $149 per night, or you can have a roommate so you two can split the cost. If you want a roomie but don’t know anyone, I can help you find one! ❤
