Knitting tips & tutorials: neat edges
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A simple technique for neatly knitted edges: knit last, pull/slip the first.
Note: this works when you're doing stockinette because your first stitch of each row is a knit. When the first stitch of your row is different, the slipped end stitch may twist. Personally I like the twisted ends and aim for that but the point you'll want to pay attention to whether or not your pulled end stitches are getting twisted or not and make sure both side match.

I love using a slip stitch edge when I am knitting stockinette stitch
THANK YOU!! I have watched many videos and still struggled. I have practiced and IT WORKS!! This is amazing! I appreciate your sharing!!

You’re welcome! I have found that I had one edge with regular open knit stitches and one edge had twisted knit, so pull the 1st stitch either purl or knit-wise as needed to get the type of stitch you prefer.
This is different than the clean edge video you had linked me before! I can't wait to try it!

Let me know how it works for you. There are few ways to do it, this is the way that’s become muscle memory for me.
It was a good expression
So what do you do for the first stitch - it looks like you slipped from the back loop with yarn in front. Is that correct?

Looks to me like it's slipped purlwise thru the backloop 😊
How does this work with seaming? For example with a pair of gloves or a jumper. I suspect this stitch is best for scarves and suchlike.

Hiya! Yes, this is for exposed edges like scarves, not seamed pieces. But I do like this for when I’m adding a crochet border, because the crochet stitches are larger than the knit ones 🥰
Can you carry up color with this technique?

To be honest I only do these edges when I’m not adding a border, and I’ve only carried color up the sides on projects that had a border, so I don’t have personal experience. But honestly I think it’ll be fine. I’m making a list of new videos to do and I’ll add carrying up the sides and test different edge techniques.
