Knitting: Classic Cables vs Twist Cables, "C" vs "T" lingo (T4B and T4F)

I do love cables, this winter we are doing a cable knit-a-long with a feature of the patterns of Tin Can Knits in their Lazy Sunday collection, link below. This video is an introduction to Twist cables as compared to Classic Cables. Ones with a "T" in front often have both knits and purls in them, whereas ones with a "C" in the front are all knit stitches. As Always, check with what the pattern writer has spelled out, try not to make assumptions!

And just like that, I understand the logic behind cables. Thank you !! So many people simply demonstrate how to do them but they don’t explain what is happening. It’s like a breakthrough and now I know what it is I’m even reading when I look at charts or instructions. Awesome 😎 ❤

Thank you so much! I was following a pattern that didn't clarify which twists were purled or knitted first and seeing purl stitches on the top of the twisted cables and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I know how to fix it now! :)

I started knitting a year ago. My tension is not as even as I'd like it to be yet. I have a hat and mitten set that have c6b followed by c6f. I am getting a big hole where the two cables sit together, and knitting the stitches on the cable needle is very difficult as the last one or two are so tight I can hardly get the needle in them. Anything you suggest is greatly appreciated.

My only suggestions are as thin a cable needle as you can find to help with the tightness, and because there are two big cables next to each other a hole may be unavoidable. You are moving the stitches where they meet very far away from each other, even the best cabling will sometimes have these gaps. Some tension issues settle with time and wear :)
