Knight Rider Replica Full Project Build video

In May 2019 I purchased a 1987 Pontiac Trans am 5.0L V8 and although it had a couple of knight bits already on it the car was an absoloute mess so I spent the next year and a half converting it into an exact knight rider replica from the 1982 tv show. Most of the parts I had to import in from the US and some parts were almost impossible to get hold of too.
This build has taken me a couple thousand hours and a lot of money but it was worth it in the end. I documented the whole build with pictures and some videos so I have put together this video showing my process and how I have transformed the car into a beautiful knight rider kitt.
Enjoy

    I've always wanted a KITT car....when I was younger, I purchased a black trans-am and tried to do a few things that mimicked KITT...that's because I couldn't afford to do like what's in this video, but I'm glad to see that someone can.....love it

    I spoke to a woman a couple of years back that was actually the mum of a boy I used to play with when i was about 8 years old and he had the knight rider pedal go kart and his mum told me he once came home crying because I kicked his knight rider go kart because he wouldn't let me have a go in it. lol. At the time this woman didn't even know I had built a kitt replica and we all laughed when she told us the story... ha ha..

    Awesome, awesome work. Great attention to detail. As a kid I also was a HUGE fan of Knight Rider! What boy wasn't lol? Few questions--Where'd you find all the interior tan pieces? They actually looked brand new. Why did you go with a manual instead of an auto? Only car you could find? Looked like it was maybe originally a GTA--due to the seats and door panels. Did it originally have a digital dash? I noticed your hvac controls are from a digital dash car. Does it work? Does the gauges and screens work in the dash itself? Lastly, why the gaming control? Atari lol? Love how it came out. That's passion and dedication there my friend, and it shows 👍🏻.

  • @FunkyProjects

    I got the manual because this was the only one I could find for sale which had the v8 engine. Most people never notice it's even a manual anyway. I got a lot of the parts from the US , Italy and Holland. Most parts you need will need importing though from US. Yes I believe it was a digital dash. I still have more things to add yet so it will look even nicer over the next couple of years. I will upload more videos as I do things 👍

    A lot of time and effort has gone into this and credit where it’s due. There are a few things not quite right though. Manual transmission being the main thing, although I appreciate you have to to work with the car you can get your hands on, but also the all important Turbo Boost, Oil Slick, Ski Mode etc, etc button pods either side of the steering wheel are missing. Still looks like a nice job has a been made though 👍

    Various places in Europe and the US for parts. Things like pmd Seats and the rear lights etc you often just have to keep an eye out on groups etc because they will all be used parts. It can be a challenge getting everything be cause some parts are kitt parts and some are normal transam parts and these cars are getting older every year 👍

    Hi, Quite an amazing accomplishment including the Knight Rider metal door seams (which I should point out that I have never seen before. either at the Carl Custom Auto Show or the other replica's on here so great!) but I do have a few questions for you. I've noticed on the lower dash that you have a set of green buttons behind the red buttons instead of a set of white buttons behind the red buttons on Chris Blasius's Knight Rider replica on here. Also, on the upper console, you have red buttons on the side instead of the green and red LED's and no digital gauge on the front as well as a different array of colored push buttons on the flat underside. Plus your rpm gauge seems to be flickering instead of just showing 0 or idling, which we can't hear. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't mind explaining these differences please??

  • @FunkyProjects

    @FunkyProjects

    3 жыл бұрын

    The lower console is an exact replica from the tv show, they may not light up in the exact way because I wanted them to be lit at all times as it's better for shows. The upper console is again screen accurate. The upper console you are referring to is the pilot one I believe which includes the digital countdown etc. That is just a different style of console but both I believe were used in season 1/2. Also the reason why my dash is flickering is just because of the camera and frame rate etc. Dash works fine.

  • @FunkyProjects

    @FunkyProjects

    Жыл бұрын

    yes the car from show was based on the 1982 transam, my main dash is painted in a gloss black colour because the front dash came with the car otherwise i would have painted it with a matt black the same as what I did with my upper and lower consoles. I use matt black because it's better when you drive if suns out otherwise it blinds you when driving because of reflections. I think most of the episodes had a matt colour dashboard but there may have been some episodes where he had a gloss black style too. Over the 4 seasons of knight rider there were lots of changes they made sometimes from one episode to the next. For example some episodes he actually had a hard top roof and some episodes he had a different style front nose.

    if i even get the chance to have one,ill spend the extra so the car actually talk back and not just clips from the show. They have the software that makes that possible.. plus there is a guy who built one that Actually has automatic open doors and hatch.

    that is something I will be adding next year as I am buying a new main dashboard so when I install that I will install the software as well which allows me to have a conversation with kitt etc. The car is finished to a good standard but I will be upgrading things and adding extra things over the next year or so but I will upload all videos on my channel here when I have done new things to the car :-)

    Hi mate, I watch all your videos and I’m really amazed at all you do and done. I’m looking on creating my own Knight Rider Kitt project and I am in need of some guidance and was hoping you can help me out please. I’m trying to become an upcoming KZreadr and have got a bit of a following as of now, was, and am hoping we can help each other out in becoming more known from KZread and hopefully making it big in the KZread sector for earning us some money. It’s difficult to find people or anyone in the UK building a Knight Rider Kitt car but I’ve known of you for quite some time now and thought I’ll contact you. I’m looking forward to hearing back from you, and again absolutely amazed at all you do, hopefully speak to you soon. Many thanks Jason

    cheers buddy, kitt building here in the uk is certainly becoming less and less popular as time goes on, mainly I think because the cost of things but also because the 3rd gens are getting harder and harder to find without spending a fortune.
