Thanks for the review, just ordered one. You assembled the base upside down. The base has a detent that you can see in 0:43 , the sharpener should be inserted into this detent and seats flush with the base.

Nice to hear your take on this system. I have been using mine for a few months now.....I'm still amazed at the results obtained. Few quick points....the system is compatible with all edge pro format stones in 6" but to me the biggest advantage is the ability to use 8x3 waterstones ...cuts sharpening time easily in half. Again thank you for a informative video.

One that is a bit less expensive is the KME Sharpener. The only drawback to the KME is that it doesn't work well for large knives, but for most knives it is superb! The TSProf is essentially a larger, industrial-grade KME.

I bought the “Ketiped” knife sharpener. I received it yesterday from Amazon and it was about $129.00. I couldn’t believe how heavy the box was when I picked it up. This thing is built like a tank and does everything I need. I really was surprised at the quality of it. I think it probably came from the land of the rising sun. Well maybe that really wasn’t where it came from but the instructions made me think that. They usually make quality items these days. All in all, I am pleased as punch and believe I got more for my money than usual.

Thanks for the review. I have always been obsessed with sharp knives and have, over the years owned about every sharpening system known to man. You are correct with respect to the price, but in this case, you get what you pay for. I think we can credit EdgePro's Ben Dale for his setting the standard on stones... these days there are hundreds of stones available that fit the K03 and other similar sharpeners (Gritomatic, being one). I can tell you this, once you use this thing, there is no going back... it is hands down the best. And, while the engineering is near equal to the K03, I would pass on the Blitz... it's just to small and restrictive. My one suggestion to TSProf is to offer a quality scissor clamp or jig as their small universal table falls short of allowing precision work on salon shears or anything fine. PS... I see several comments on the movement... mine is clamped to my bench and is rock solid (zero movement).

If your any kind of man you should be able to use a oil or wheatstone to sharpen freehand. . However, as a master painter can take years of practice, thousands of hours of experience and free hand a straight line. A inexperienced person can take some masking tape and make a finer straighter edge that's perfectly accurate. No freehand edge will ever be or could ever be as straight, consistent with tolerance ranges less than ten thousands as this ( I have the K03 I use CBN, Arkansas translucent..much more in stones than the actual sharpener.) For the camper, holiday chefs.. free hand is fine. For those of us seeking absolute perfection edges scoring sub 30s. Far far beyond razor sharp. It's no contest. There is some junk out there. This is not one of them. Not trying to to argue. It just is what it is. A quality scope beats iron sights at 500 yards any day. There's good enough and then there is the pursuit of perfection. It's not for everyone.

No doubt a quality scanner and robot could paint a Michael Angelo reproduction complete with new paint that doesn't show the ravages of time that in any mathematical analysis would beat the original in every way. As for me, I think I will always prefer the original. Not to mention, in many of the finest gun making houses in the world, after the computers are finished, the final barrel tuning is still done by hand. It might exist, but I have never seen an edge equal what I can put on any of my straight razors by hand.

Hey Walter. Just wondering about all the wiggle. It looks like the wobbling is from the base and the whole unit is moving as one. This seems ok. But if there's movement/flexing in the various parts, then that's gonna throw off accuracy. Any thoughts on if it's one or the other? At about 6:03, it looks like the knife pivot is moving. That'll hose your angle. Plus, I'm wondering if the clamps don't need to be further out to the tip to prevent the blade flexing and again, changing the sharpening angle. And yeah, that $$$. Ouch!

@@burtjoubert If you are referring to 4135236, this design cannot handle narrow blades. And by narrow, I mean 'not tall', although filleting knives are usually also 'thin'. For example, my Fiskars filleting knife is 13x0.9mm. You absolutely _cannot_ have a clamp on it, and even the backing plate must be ground to an angle to prevent the stone grinding on it. See: photos.app.goo.gl/gZeGb1W1Pmd14BiA6 photos.app.goo.gl/QTz8UWZDEyhKw47j7 (This is the turd I coded w/ OpenSCAD, and laser-cut from acrylic.) BTW, I cannot see this kind of a 3D printed (plastic) 'rotation' jig yielding better than 2' precision. I think the 'two-sided' (two-stone) sharpener would be the best solution, but I am yet to find the time to model and cut it...

@@MrZetor Wow, cool design! Nicely done acrylic design. With the Thingiverse "Leadingedge" sharpener, try using the "Straight razor guide" (one of the printable parts). That works well for thin knives like yours. Alternatively, removing the guide / backing plate altogether only using the neodymium magnets on a very thin knife will also work very well. Use a bit of painters tape over the magnets, and draw a line on it as a position guide for when you turn the knife over.

No chance to mess up the heat on the edge like you can with a Tormek. So there's that.

Get a smith's guided sharpener and hold the knife/stone like you would with a normal small stone. 99% as effective as this, 10x faster and easier ergonomically, and 1% of the price...

Way to expensive! A Ruixin Pro is basically the same and costs less than a 1/10 . The hight adjustment is not well built. I like the clamps. Good engineering there! Maybe buy the clamps and put them on the Ruixin.

Way too much movement for the price. Not only the baseplate rocks but the clamp too. That's not really industrial standard.

it looks like Walter did not fix the system to the bench for this video. also it seems moving a lot more than in other review videos so not sure why.

He's got it on a piece of plywood sheeting that looks cantilevered over a bench for petes sake. You can't judge stability by that. Look at some other videos on TSPROF.

FAIL. You just held up the base showing the place where to mount the unit at 0:43 and then you mounted it on the opposite side. Of course it's flexing all over the place. Secondly, you didn't tighten it enough so it wouldn't have much lateral flexing. I thought you said the manual was well written? FYI, I own this unit and it works flawlessly, if you follow the directions.

What!! 400$ for what looks like a CNC milled aluminum apparatus? That is a price tag from the nineties. The over engineering is no surprise; that’s typical for Russian manufacturing. If you look at Russian knife bushcrafting reviews, its astonishing what those guys expect from a knife. Compared to US/European reviews, where knives are treated like lady friends.

I received mine on 08/30/22 and can't say it was so smooth of an assembly. The box had been dropped on the corner and the wooden crate was busted. The logistics company that TSPROF.US used to fulfill the order put the tsprof box inside of a larger box with virtually no packing and when I received it from UPS the shipping tape was busted on both ends . Long story short the mechanical angle gauge was bent pretty bad which I blame on the shipper but the fact that the thumb screws that hold the unit to the weighted base would only thread in by hand about one third of the way and had to be tightened the rest of the way with pliers leaves me to wonder just what kind of quality control issues the company has. I am not happy with my purchase.
