Knife Making - How to make a Modern Bushcraft Knife, full build.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video, I will show you step by step How to make a Modern Bushcraft Knife,. I will make the knife from the
truck spring. This is the first time I will make a DIY Bushcraft knife .
And also this is my first experience in making a knife completely out of metal, including the handle of the knife. First of all, I will transfer the dimensions of the workpiece to paper and draw the outlines of the future knife on paper .
I will transfer it to the steel blank using spray paint. I don’t know the grade of steel .
Then, with a grinder, I will cut out the contour of the knife. To smooth out any irregularities, I use a belt sander.
I use a wet stone grinder to sharpen my knife.
Thanks for watching.

On the one hand, this guy just made a knife with a pair of channellocks and a framing hammer so what the hell is my excuse? On the other hand, he's got a 72 inch belt grinder.

Brutal man! Tron knife...like the film...👍👍
This is absolutely beautiful. A fairly simplistic design with gorgeous lines. To start with an old piece of scrap metal and end up with something that is as functional as it is appealing to the eye is something many youtube knife makers fall short of. Also your video editing was outstanding. Great camera angles and excellent flow. I thank you for putting this together and sharing it. I look forward to seeing your next creation. Much respect 🙏 👏.

This is really cool and creative, but that would be WAY to heavy to use as a bushcraft knife that you would actually cary into the woods, and since that is made from a leaf spring, it is simply carbon steel and if the handel isn't coated or wraped with something it will rust in your hand after only a short while. That said, as a novelty knife, and as somthing different from the rest this is a definite success. Beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.

@mrkiky
2 жыл бұрын
It's beautifully crafted for sure, but kinda impractical for actual use in bushcraft though. The blade is way too thick for fine cuts, I imagine it's crazy heavy, and being all metal, it's gonna suck the heat right out of your hands in slightly cold weather. Plus, I'm not sure about the ergonomics of the handle. For bushcraft you want something that you can squeeze as hard as you can, in multiple grips and use it for an extended period of time.

Супер!
Hello. Truck springs are usually made of 1.5160 steel or similar which is OK for knife making. But you need to forge it (around 960 celcius) and then normalize it (around 870 celcius) in order to modify grain structure and improve toughness. You didn't do that. After these steps, you need to harden it (around 840 celcius) and temper it (around 190 celcius). Your tempering temperature is OK, but from what I see, I seriously doubt your furnace can reach 840 celcius. Also from the color of the knife during quenching, I can tell that the temperature is lower than 800C. Below 825 celcius, this type of steel will not get into austenite phase, there will be no martensitic transformation and therefore it will not harden. Also after tempering, you should not allow it to get near 200 celcius again, since this will further temper it and decrease the hardness. In other words, you better use wet grinding or at least manual grinding after the heat treatment step. You put so much time and effort towards building a knife, so it is rewarding to pay attention to get the best microstructure possible. The performance of the knife depends on it.

Nice knife. I wouldn't use if for field work tho. Heavier than it needs to be, the entire thing will rust, and handles have no texture. As soon as your hand gets wet, its gonna slip all over the place resulting in a pretty dangerous tool.
