What else works , are used street sweeper front wear plates . They are good hard steel . When they are worn out , they get a perfect curved tapered edge , and you can cut a nice curved blade out of them with a zip- disc . You can get them cheap , because they just go for scrap metal .

I initially *almost* thought this was going to be a Professional job at the beginning. It cracks me up every time I see them do that "water dipping dance" that they think actually does something when tempering. Only to fully submerge it seconds later. God bless the person who came up with that and passed it on to others. It's always a good laugh.

It's a sound that makes the video come alive, but making a metal device is really difficult. Therefore, I think his work is hard work.
@rafiqkatana
8 ай бұрын
@@lifeskillsdn Agreed. He worked really hard on this. And even took the time to stone sharpen it properly. Unlike everyone else that just grinds it sharp with a power grinder. Which ruins the tempering, if there is any.

it is called edge quenching , if his heat treat was bad , his edge would have a huge chip in it . Once the steel is below 700 degrees farenhight the hardening is finished . Edge quenching leaves the edge glass hard and the spine soft . He did not get the edge to cherry , he took it to a dull red to keep it from being glass hard . . .If the man had no clue what he was doing he would not be in business . I am a welder by the way
