Knife Making: Building a Kiridashi in One Day

I had the afternoon off so I decided to challenge myself to a One Day Build (and film) kiridashi. Made with 1084 carbon steel and Brazilian ironwood scales.

What brand/model belt grinder do you have? Also, what was that spacer material? It looked like it behaved like linen. Great job! Subbed!

I built my belt grinder using various plans I found online. The spacer material is a fiber liner. It just helps adhesion to the tang and looks nice in the process.

The spacer material looks kinda like a gasket for car engines...and such..

hi, its a great knife, may i ask you a question? after heating the knife......is that liquid is water that you submerge the knife into or is it something els? thanks

No, water is way too aggressive. Only very specific steels can be water quenched safely. I am using parks50 quench oil. But you can use vegetable or canola oil for very similar results.

I am aware. That is only necessary after you have heat treated the steel. Don't know where you saw evidence that I was not following that rule but whatever.
