KNF Cam E-3 ~ Alex Takes No Prisoners! Gives Karate Kick To 2nd Visitor & Evicts Off Nest 12.12.23

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This afternoon, a second visitor appears and flies in to the nest tree. Alex is really upset with this new eagle and mantles over his eggs and vocalizes a warning loudly for several minutes. Looks like another female by the size and it flies into the nest and Alex immediately rushes over and without hesitation gives it a swift karate kick and makes sure to evict this new eagle from the nest! It was clearly a new visitor and not the same female that has been at the nest since Sat Dec 9th. After reviewing the footage in zoom and slomo, this visitor has a dark spot on the top of its head and a dark spot on the right and left side of its face parallel to its eye. Also when it flew to the nest there was a white feather seen on the underside of its right wing. Alex's swift eviction of this eagle shows he was upset with its invasion into his nest.
If you recall, F1 the first female seen was also evicted out of the nest by Alex on day one as well but then Alex warmed up to its continued presence at the nest tree and also in following him around the territory. Alex would automatically get up when F1 would come to the nest as if he was expecting a shift change for the eggs. F1 has shown no harm to the eggs just curiosity and she has covered them up with nesting material perhaps as a way to bury them and have Alex concentrate on her as a new mate. Also, F1 does not have a brood patch and is not experiencing maternal hormonal changes that a female would that had that just laid eggs like Andria so she would have no reason to incubate Alex's eggs. Hormones dictate mating, nestorations, incubation and raising of chicks.
F2 the new visitor today we don't have any information on yet only Alex's initial response to her attempts to enter the nest. Alex's sole priority is to protect the eggs, his nest and territory. There are a lot of surplus eagles in this general area ready to seize on this opportunity so we may see even more visitors show up as they do seem to know when there is not a bonded pair protecting their nest and territory. Alex is doing the best he can under the circumstances and of handling the sudden changes of Andria passing. He is working hard round the clock and doing a great job! Try not to speculate about the events too much and just watch and observe how nature unfolds before us. Thank you for watching!

Update from ranger Cody: "Andria is being transported to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine for the necropsy and many of the tests we requested. She will arrive on Wednesday at noon. Preliminary results from various tests should start to come back to us by the end of next week. I will share information as I receive it. Thanks for the support." ♥ This afternoon, a second visitor appears and flies in to the nest tree. 🎵 *Let me tell you 'bout the birds and the bees!* One question that keeps coming up, when an eagle loses its mate is, "How do these intruders know the eagle is available?" We can't really answer that, but, from what we've seen on the cams, it's more than obvious that humans aren't the only species with 'nosy neighbors'! 😂 They apparently have eagle-spidey sense, or a darn good Eagle-net with a NestBook app. Lots of "Tweets" being sent, also! 📣 Because, *_THEY KNOW!_* 🤣 They also know a good thing when they see it! And, Alex is a gem! ❤ The problem here is his hormones are telling him to 'incubate'. They're hormones are telling them to 'procreate'! They might try to 'exterminate' the eggs! (Any Dr. Who fans out there?) 😅 Alex has his -hands- talons full. Where's a crow or raven when you need one? 🐦‍⬛🥚🔨 🐦‍⬛ That would, of course, be to be kind to Alex, (unviable eggs) as some have been known to sit there for a very, very long time...in vain. 😪 The experts say that although it's theoretically possible for Alex to find a new mate, and have eggs this season, it's most likely not probable. That's reasonable! 🤔 And, probably true, in most cases. But, we saw feisty, determined Rose🌹come into Ron's life at Dade County, and they not only had a clutch but they're now on their 2nd clutch, in the same calendar year. Plus, Rose was around 4-4.5 years old! ❤ So, the best thing to do is get your snacks, 🍿enjoy the show, and, we'll all learn something, together. 😘 For new viewers... TTE = Trust the Eagles!! They *always* know what they're doing! ❤🦅 TYLH! 🥰 Be blessed, everyone! 😇🤗🌻🙏💖😻🦅💕

I watched this event in Real Time. What struck me at the time and i posted on it--was that Alex was up and swung around clockwise to get at his adversary. I am now persuaded that was the best way for him to act to gain force of impact(Force = Mass x momentum.)to deliver to the larger F Intruder . Seems that Alex has had some encounters with other Eagles and picked up a few points in Talon/wing Combat over time. Don't like the Chatter phrase--TTE--but Eagles Really are Smart--in so many ways. Watching my favorite E Pair, Jackie and Shadow , shows me that almost every day. Thanks for Posting L H.

🎶 Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting.... Alex's kick what's fast as lightning 🎶. I'm not making light of the situation with my lyrics. When I read karate kick I thought of the kung fu fighting song. I do wish these ladies would please leave Alex alone to grieve and try to save and care for his babies. I wish that the first female that's been coming around would have swooped in and did the karate kick to knock her off the nest. The first female that's been showing up I don't think means any harm. At least that's what I want to believe 🙏. She's always moving things around on the nest. I wish she would sit on the eggs and help Alex incubate them.

I feel bad for Alex even though I do know and understand that he can take care of himself and he does know what he wants too and that is his nest to be protected and a safe place to be too.🦅❤️🙏. I’m sure he knows that Andria is gone and that he has to move on and do the best he can do as a single male Eagle with two eggs that we really don’t know that will hatch or not. Maybe one might hatch but we shall see.🥚🥚🙏 Alex does kinda remind me of M15 even though the E’s were already hatched and older but still, M15 was concerned how he was gonna get food for himself and his E’s and with Alex, he wasn’t so sure about leaving the nest with the eggs in it so he could get food but he does with this one female Eagle that he seems to allow at the nest. Just curious, do you think that the file that he trusts at the nest who covers the eggs that she is doing that for protection? Thank you for your knowledge and info too. God bless and have a wonderful and safe night. Sue M. Clearwater, ❤️🙏🦅🥚🥚🌟😘❌⭕️

ALEX: "Leave ME Alone Intruding Female, I've got a Serious Task to do and You're NOT Welcomed in MY Nest"! Lady Hawk, Love how fast Alex goes into protection mode mantling his eggs! And he puffs up his feathers to appear larger to this 2nd Intruding female. Poor baby, he's doing what comes by instinctively, just wished these Intruding female visitors would wait a couple of more days before disrupting him. He must be so stressed right now. His Eagle World has turned upside down on him.💔. It's as if these females can smell a widower or unattached male from miles away. I noticed @TS 2:51 female 2 did a very small ps while she was perched on the branch. I've seen hatchlings do a bigger ps, perhaps she is looking for prey as well? Alex is gonna end up having hoarse vocals if this keeps happening. WOW! Alex REALLY SHOWED HER! In Karate, that's what we call 'a reverse chicken kick', only bcz of having wings, Alex was able to do 'a reverse double chicken kick'! (I studied Martial Arts in Kenpo Karate for over a decade). ATTA BOY ALEX! And then came his Triumphant Victory Chortles until his Eagle eyes caught the attention of a feather floating around for a few seconds, then remembered he needed to get back to his eggs!💞 Thank You Lady Hawk for sharing an exciting video of Alex and for Rangers Cody's update.

I know that it's just a guess. So there is a chance he could mate again? I guess the invader wanted to bury the eggs so she could claim her spot?

It appears that Alex is attempting to raise his babies like M15 did. God speed Alex and babies.😀😀😇😇

I think these "other" eagles are always showing up at nests....it's just normally it would be Alex's job to chase off (if not off hunting) but he's on incubation duty. Nobody guarding the parameters? 🤷🏼‍♀
