What a great piece of history and it feels like a full trip in a time machine with the commercials intact and hearing the old music. I hate it that baseball games are arely on broadcast channels anymore as it's boring just being on 24/7 sports cable stations. I love the dome nature of the Metrodome when it first came out although it might've not been too good for baseball and excellent for football, I just love seeing state-of-the-art stadiums when they first open. This is a real first open too since the Vikes and Gophers didn't open their seasons in the new digs until the fall.

This is awesome! I remember listening to this game on the radio. Please add more Twins and North Stars games from KMSP if you have anymore in the vault. Thank you.

Even though we didn’t live in the Minneapolis DMA we had a booster on our antenna and we were able to pull in Minneapolis TV stations

This was the first year I really remember listening to games on the radio and the reason for that was my family moved in December 1981 and I had my own room (without other family things in it) for the first time with privacy

I had the privilege of directing this game. As simple a setup as it was by today’s standards, it was still a thrill and one of the high ites of my career.

Was hoping for another angle on double play in top of 5th. I am over it by now, great job.

Wow this is a classic. I was a 5th grader at the time thinking the Dome was so cool and the 82 Twins were going to be legit. Needless to say the Twins were Gawd awful and the dome didn't exactly have the charm of Wrigley or Fenway. It's hard to believe that in these days only about 45 games a year were televised. You would usually get the home opener and another home game shortly after the ASG. The rest were all road games. Fun days.

IIRC it was 50 games a year KMSP would televise. And IIRC after this home opener telecast KMSP didn’t televise the home opener again until 1986(after that they did do the home opener each year)

Calvin kept payroll low due to the fact he didn’t have another source on income and the Twins were how he made his money.

2:03:18 rare treat for fans to be up close and personal in LF until plexiglass put up. Glass was up when we went down to lower level in 83 to see if Gary Ward could drive one home. Wonder if there were any attempts to extract souvenirs from players by the LF fans during the brief "exposed left field wall" era.

Umpires wearing coats and ties. 7:15. Home plate umpire Bill Haller using the outside chest protector. Outside chest protector gone forever! Same goes for umpires wearing coats and ties.😢

  • @epaddon

Bill Haller was the last umpire who would always wear a tie when working in back of the plate (which meant the other umps would do likewise). He retired after the 82 season. Jerry Neudecker who retired after 1985 was the last AL umpire to wear the outside protector (not counting the times random replacement umps during a strike would wear it).
