Klum FLA Tenor Mouthpiece and 5 Java 4s

Музыка

So I picked up a Ted Klum Rubber Florida model tenor piece in a 7*. Check it out with me, and I'll play it on 5 fresh new Java #4s to kick off the new year. Let me know what you think, and please share, like, and subscribe.

Yep number 4! Have a great 2020...keep 'em coming. But actually 1, readjusted 5 and Boston sax reed all have something interesting to listen to.

Nice vid, I've been playing on a KLUM FLA hard rubber 6 star on tenor for the past 3 months, been loving it quite a bit. Changed over from a HR lebayle (not sure the model)

It's really a new golden age for mouthpieces. It's amazing what people are able to make with the new tech happening. 3D printing and 7 axis milling machine - craziness. People thing the 50s and 60s was the golden age, but not any more.

Definitely try some Boston sax shop reeds if you haven’t. I’ve heard they are fantastic quality and very consistent

I heard someone say they glued a thin piece of cork to the link ligature pad where it comes in contact with the reed and it worked well for them I haven't got around to trying it yet

I just use the otto link ligature like a expanding ligature. I tighten the reed plate a little tighter than where I want it to be, then press into place along the taper of the mouthpiece. I usually holds and the plate is flat against the reed. I have a FLA vintage ligature and a more modern version and both functioned this way. Maybe I'll do a video on that. It's a little hard to explain in text.

The only thing I don't like about the cork thing is the likelihood the cork would absorb some of the vibrations you'd want going into the horn!

@@saxophonegeeks yea the guy said it did darken the tone I think I'll try it without glue first

What would say are the differences between Flórida and tonamax? I am indecided. I play an early babbit but i am a bit tired of the link resistence. Also, how does marble afect the sound and feel? Thanks 🙏

Florida is somewhat brighter and more focussed. Punchy. As for the marbled rubber I like how it looks (Especial the blue!!) but it's probably not a big factor on the tone production/tamber.
