Kliq This

Ойын-сауық

In this episode of "Kliq This," titled "WCW: Worse Than We Remembered," Kevin Nash and Sean Oliver revisit the turbulent days of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), shedding light on the chaotic and often baffling decisions that marked the company's downfall. With a critical eye, they dissect the infamous incidents and personalities that contributed to WCW's decline, offering a candid and unfiltered perspective on the era.
The hosts delve into the controversial booking decisions, such as David Arquette's championship reign, the "Fingerpoke of Doom," and Vince Russo's tenure, analyzing their impact on the company's credibility and legacy. Nash and Oliver explore the broader context of these decisions, reflecting on the internal politics, corporate interference, and strategic missteps that plagued WCW.
Nash shares personal stories and insights from his time in WCW, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the atmosphere and dynamics within the company. The conversation highlights the challenges faced by the creative team, the influence of network executives, and the ultimate failure to sustain the momentum that once made WCW a formidable competitor to WWE.
In addition to the main discussion, the episode touches on lighter topics, such as Nash's recent experiences and the hosts' humorous takes on various subjects. These segments add a personal and relatable touch, balancing the critical analysis with moments of levity.
Join Kevin Nash and Sean Oliver for an honest and engaging exploration of WCW's tumultuous history. Their straightforward and entertaining style promises to provide listeners with a deeper understanding of the factors that led to the fall of one of wrestling's most controversial promotions.

Sean insinuated that the reason why Flair was not apart of it was because of money issues. I am 100% positive it has more so to do with how they buried him in the Darkside of the ring episode about the plane ride from hell.

Hearing you Kevin talking about NWO coming in in 2002, forget one detail. The WWF fans, myself included, were not happy that the NWO were coming in, we were happy that, Diesel, Razor and Hulk were coming home where they belong. That's why you got the pops that you got. I also wanted You and Scott to debut after Wrestlemania and feud with Triple H. A Kliq civil war would have been money.

Regarding the title. Starrcade 98 was a defining moment for me as a kid. I watched in horror as Goldberg was struck down with a stun gun. Nowadays I look back and think it was a great way to bring down the behemoth. I still remember how I felt screaming no! I also look back on DDP turning a chokeslam into a diamond cutter. And Billy Kidman running a marathon for 2 matches. Then I see that critics didn't like the show. And I can't for the life of me understand why. I know they're smarter than me and they have metrics that I can't understand, but shouldn't my review of it as a paying fan be just as legit as theirs? I was 13 years old, I had fun, I was a total mark. Life was good watching it. That's all.

Much love for Big Kev. I’ve gained a whole new level of respect for Kevin Nash, after finding out that one of his favorite movies is “Black Hawk Down”. That movie features a bit of my late 2nd cousin, Sgt. Lorenzo Ruiz (AKA RUIZ in the movie). My mom and Sgt Ruiz were close relatives , and Sgt Ruiz unfortunately died during the period of my mom’s pregnancy while she was pregnant with me. Everyone was afraid to break the news to my mom of Sgt Ruiz’s passing, because they were afraid that she was going to have a miscarriage of me, due to their close brother/sister like relationship. Just knowing that Kevin Nash is a fan of that movie, gives me the feeling that he is also a fan of the sacrifices my family went through that period of time. I’ve also have a cousin currently serving in the Army, that is a pro wrestler on the Indy’s in SoCal, and we both respect the shit out of Big Kev, more after finding out that “Black Hawk Down” is one of his favorite movies. To us, that makes us feel that Kevin Nash is also showing love and respect to our late family members. In return, I keep T in mind, and hope he is resting peacefully. Thank you Sean and Kev for your work, I wish nothing but the best for you guys and the whole team. 💯

"it got cross over press" - did it get people who tuned in, who then stayed? Did it get more people to buy the PPV? THOSE should be the metrics. It's hilarious that "cross over press" is all Russo can hang his hat on, but the argument would collapse under its own weight with a simple question or two.

No one factor killed WCW. As with just about everything, multifactor analysis is needed while people tend to want to boil such outcomes down to just one thing. Yes, the corporate mismanagement was a huge factor in WCW’s demise, but crap like Hogan not wanting to lose to Sting clean (and Bischoff being too far up Hogan’s ass to push back on that) at Starrcade, The Fingerpoke of Doom, announcing Foley was going to win the WWE title, misusing Bret, and putting the belt on Arquette and Russo ALL did damage to the brand that previously was beating WWE. Maybe if those booking decisions didn’t happen, someone who did give a shit about wrestling would have picked up WCW where the corporate cunts with Time Warner, Turner Broadcasting, etc. didn’t want to. 🤷‍♂️

You should have used the Sting victory as a reason to dump Hogan. If you would have done that, and promoted another WWF refugee, you might have won the Monday Night Wars. Granted hindsight is 20/20, and contractual stipulations are exactly that. At the same time this is my conclusion after consideration of the events I witnessed with my own eyes. Arguably Incorrect. It is much better than the pap we get on TV now with WWE and AEW. All hype and 5 minutes of story closure which is just a swerve into another storyline that fails over time. WCW, nowadays. looks like quality stuff. Kev is super biased as is Sean. People today are stunned dummies and will be entranced by a jiggling of keys, as TikTok has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. They haven't the attention span to enjoy anything more than 5 seconds long. Its why wrestling matches EVERYWHERE are 2-3 months of storyline and then 10-15 minutes of ONE match and its over.

Its crazy, all these years later and NOT ONE of these guys can MAN UP and take some of the blame. Eric says it wasnt his fault, of Course Russo stands behind all his BS. You got Big Kevin here still cant say i totally FKD up the Book(WHICH I SHOULDNT HAVE ASKED FOR IN THE 1st PLACE) Hogan will NEVER take any blame for anything. Its like come on guys, plenty pieces of blame pie to go around. Seems like Konan is the only guy keeping it 100%

Ultimately it was Eric and The AOL merger. If Eric wasn't spending crazy money they company would be more profitable and then maybe the new company would have seen wcw as worth keeping in their portfolio

Please read: **** @AskNash ****** I am a friend of the family of TNT Keny G, Keny Garrett. Former wrestler and promoter of High Voltage Wrestling in Illinois. He has a daughter named Santana that Scott Hall trained. Santana made her way across WWE and AEW. Got any stories of Scott training her or Keny Garrett stories? Not sure if you knew but Keny did pass a few years back. If you could give his kids, Sam and Santana a shout out!

Just because people talk about it and it gets attention doesnt mean its good, people still talk about the JFK assassination but that certainly doesnt mean it was good or entertaining. Finger poke of doom, Nash ending Goldbergs streak, Arquette and Judy bagwell on a forklift was all garbage. Nash was bad at booking too but he gets a pass because he was a wrestler just looking out for himself, Russo was just an idiot doing anything to get views.
