KLGA to KBHB in a King Air B100!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is an interesting video: single pilot operation in a King Air. The IFR procedures are explained, the cockpit camera gives crystal clear images and ATC is recorded. It also shows how professional Air Traffic controllers in the NY area work.

    Thank you very much. I (at least try to) to fly like anyone could watch me. It requires discipline and the temptation to take short cut is great, especially when you are tired or of it is on the last flight of the day and you want to go home. Our passengers give us a lot of responsibility and they trust us. Greetings to Japan & Happy Landings, Guido

    Thank you! Some clients elect to fly with one pilot only to safe cost. This is perfectly safe and legal. The steering is done with the rudder pedals, these are connected to the nose wheel. Larger aircraft have a steering wheel on the side of the cockpit (called "tiller"). Happy Landings, Guido

    You have a good point here. I would say the only "weak" spot of the Garmin touchscreen is the use in turbulence. For frequency changes I often use the turning knob instead of the touch screen. Happy Landings, Guido

    Mr. Warneke, not a pilot. But I have always dreamt of one day learning how. I really enjoy watching your flight videos. Just by watching your videos I have learned a lot, and have become more respectful of the huge responsibility you have as a pilot of a passenger aircraft. Thanks a lot for all your hard work. I really appreciate the chance to at least learn and enjoy aviation, even though I am not a professional pilot like yourself. Who knows maybe one day I will get that opportunity to become a pilot. Nothing but the best to you. Safe skies to you. Keep the videos coming. A big fan. Thanks again.

    It is a Sperry SPZ 200. The modes are: HDG - to hold a heading, NAV - to track a ground based Nav aid, APR - to track an ILS and intercept the glide path, BC - localizer back course approach, IAS - maintain an indicated airspeed, VS - maintain a vertical speed. It is a simple autopilot, quite old but still works fine. Happy Landings, Guido

    Hi Fernando. this King Air is equipped with Garrett turbine engines. There is a fuel control unit that takes care automatically of the correct amount of fuel sprayed in the combustion chamber. In many ways the turbines a easier for the pilot to manage as piston engines. No mixture control, cowl flaps etc. Happy landings and greetings to Brazil! Guido

    Vince, prop synch works as such that one engine "follows" the other with the rpm. In case of an engine failure, one engine would follow the other and reduce the rpm as well. The system will kick out quickly, but there might be a power surge. This is why during critical phases of flight (e.g. take off and landing) the prop synch needs to be off. Happy Landings, Guidoo

    Prop synch is for passenger comfort only. It keeps the propeller rpm matched on the engines and avoids this "humming" (technical term "beating"). One engine "slave' follows the other engine "master" with the rpm. If you have an engine failure, there is a remote chance that the other engine will decrease rpm momentarily. This is - for safety - prop synch has to be off in critical phases of flight, like take off and landing. Happy Landings, Guido

    This is airplane specific. In the B100 it is typically 400 feet above the ground. The reason is that the yaw dampe ON makes it more difficult to control an engine failure (you need to use rudder). Above 400ft it is all safer, therefore the yaw damper can be switched on at that altitude. Saludos & Happy landings, Guido

    You are a true professional. Although I cannot fly at the moment, your videos keep my head in the cockpit learning from your impecable ways in the front office. Many, many thanks!! I noticed that upon touchdown you moved the condition levers to the rear while applying reverse thrust. Could you explain? Blue Skies, Frank

  • @GuidoWarnecke

    @GuidoWarnecke

    10 жыл бұрын

    Thank you very much, Frank! This King Air B100 is equipped with Garrett direct shaft engines. Different handling compared top the P&W PT6. There are no condition levers here. The middle 2 levers are the prop rpm levers. In flight we can only set between 96% (flight idde)and 101.5% rpm (max rpm) On the ground, we can go down to 65% (ground idle) by pulling the prop lever back. What I did after touch down is to pull pack the props to 65%. You need a 3 minute cool down period before shutting down the engines and the time starts only when the engines are in ground idle 65%. Of course there is no full reverse available, so do this only on long runways. If you want to use full reverse you bring the propellers to full forward (max rpm) after touch down. Here an example: (video at 21:47) kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5OH2dNyfZeup84.htmlm47s I hope this explains it. Thanks for watching my videos & happy landings, Guido .

    Faolan, I always appreciate questions. Aileron trim (roll trim) is seldom used in normal flight. Only fuel imbalance (should not be there) or single engine operation. You always switch off autopilot first, trim the airplane and then switch on the autopilot again. Happy Landings, Guido

    Hi Scott, this is aircraft specific. The B100 has published data for flaps zero and for flaps approach. These are the only flap settings permitted for take off. With flaps approach on take off the distance is shorter, but the single engine climb (in case of engine failure) is degraded. I normally use flap zero. Happy Landings, Guido
