Kitefoiling Tutorial (Beginner): launching in waves and shallow water

Water start with a foilboard requires at least chest deep water. However in waves, I usually go deeper until I could not touch the bottom. With the waves is quite hard to get out, so I use the kite to drag myself out. Holding the board is tricky, I always keep the board on the rail when dragging out mainly to prevent the foil hitting the bottom and less drag.
This video has two parts, first part shows you with a larger foilboard (Liquid Force Fish Foil) and the second part with a smaller foilboard (Moses).
Tip #1:
When the waves about to hit you, try to press the board into the water and dive your head into the water. This will make the wave push you less back. The higher you are on the surface, the waves will push you harder.
Tip# 2:
Is easier to water start behind the waves.

I like to keep the board on the upwind side. To start, I let it go behind me, and point it straight downwind. Only slide it slightly in front of you (still angled downwind) to put the straps on. Less time with the board downwind, and less chance to get pulled over the board when getting ready to water start.

Haha, I guess that answered my question in the other video. Thanks! I did it like this today but with 10-15ft waves I still got smacked around a decent bit.

Great explanation Danleow!!! Simple, but really helpful. I''m also having trouble going downwind and turning. Can you give us some tips on how to downwind? Thanks.

+Mike Medus To go downwind keep YOUR BOARD FLAT and let the kite fly in front about 60 degrees or higher. Some kites has good drift and some don't so it depends on your kite how well it flies downwind.

+Mike Medus To make a gybe (turn) from heel to toe side, try doing a surface turn first. I usually kite downloop because I need the power to drive board over. Then I use my foot and body slightly leaning inwards to turn the board slowly. Make sure the kite and the board turn about the same time. Once the board goes to the other side, fly your kite high to switch your foot from toe to heel side.

this is with side wind, so you can cut the wave with the board. When the wind is on, perpendicularly to the shore, how can you do? Every wave catches the board in all its length and carry you back to the beach... are you able to go out anyway?
