keep in mind after you replace any component on the dishwasher, you have to "reset" the dish washer so it tests and recognizes that parts are working. This is a must, not an option. I replaced a circulation pump and it wasn't heating. i had to reset the dish washer, it tested all parts one by one and viola, heating element was working again. to reset kitchenaid dishwasher, open door and press any 3 "option" buttons one by one for a total of 3 times..for e.g. Heated Dry > Hi-Temp Wash > Sani-Rinse one by one and repeat this for a total of 3 times. All lights will go on indicating its in diagnostic mode, close the door and let it run..it will run for about 10 mins and test each cycle and each component. it will flash all lights and beep 3 times to indicate it has finished. your dishwasher is reset at this point and ready to use all working parts now.

@@donbuffington4956 I am not sure. Are you sure you followed the above exactly as described? I doubt they would change diagnostic mode from model to model, its usually consistent for the manufacturer

Thanks for the great tip. My dishwasher hadn't been heat drying since the new pump replacement. Did the reset and all is well again. Glad I waited to buy a new heating element. I'll always try the reset first in the future.

Awesome instructions although I was able to skip taking apart a lot of stuff underneath and just pulling it out. Saved me lots of money.

Can the heating element be pulled out without doing all those other steps?

I did the whole thing in less than 10 minutes, and I only unscrewed the top and bottom mounts and unplugged the wall power. Just be careful, even when unplugged, it is possible there is a capacitive charge from the unit that could give you a shock.

The clip at the bottom front of the dishwasher isn’t holding down the element, any tips for getting that thing to snap in? It’s causing the element to lift up and the wash arm hits it and gets stuck

why do you disconnect the terminal box, is it because the power supply is too short to pull out the unit while attached?

Why could you not just change the element ?Why disconnect all the other extraneous equipment? The power is off ,there is no shock danger .

I know. Why would they disconnect everything? Just reach in and detach the element once you're sure there is no power to to the machine. I'd love to hear an explanation.

Jeez, I watched it again. Now I see. The terminal nuts and element wires were in the back of the machine and unreachable without pulling the machine out. The wires/hoses probably didn't have enough slack. But, pulling out the machine is probably not necessary on many setups.

@@selmaave9145 I think that just disconnecting the wires if you have a plug in electrical connection is unnecessary. Just disconnect the plug from the outlet and treat the same as the drawing and supply hose.

The element has to be water tight so the bottom nuts are screwed into it. All this work is just to be able to access and loosen those nuts
