In the true spirit of the podcast I meant to comment yesterday to say how much fun it was recording with Peachy, Pat and Geoff (because it was a blast, and I loved it)... but then I got distracted and I've only just realised I didn't actually do that. On brand.

I've also got Aphantasia and the app Impcat has been a godsend to my painting. Being able to actually see how a model will look when I can't picture it in my head is incredibly useful. Cool to hear about a fellow hobbyist that has it as well. Some people like to assume that people with Aphantasia are less creative and I think Kirioth is a clear example of how that isn't the case! Regarding dreams, for myself I can remember most of my dreams briefly but they fade fast, only a handful stick in my memory. The weird thing about dreams is that I could not tell you if I actually see them or just.. experience them I guess. Since I can't picture them after the fact I can't say if I'm actually seeing anything at the time. Memory is a weird thing.

  • @Kirioth

    @Kirioth

Impcat looks super helpful, I'm really glad it was mentioned! I feel like Aphantasia isn't necessarily a barrier to creativity, it just means we end up with a different approach to get similar results, but on the surface of it I can totally see why there'd be the assumption of less creativity.

There's nothing wrong with publicly appealing for bits! I've been appealing for guard vehicle accessory torsos for my plastic Mordian Iron Guard project. People laughed at how unlikely it would be, but I'm currently sitting on well over 130 guardsmen. Now I just need to watch Peachy's guide on painting them on repeat until it's ingrained, and I'll maybe have the motivation to get started! 😂

I have no visualisation at all, and like Kirioth thought "picture it in your mind's eye" was a metaphor for "remember really hard".... A lot of games have rules for off-board artillery because, well, the ranges are measured in kilometres; one of these is Heavy Gear which is small stompy robots. (Think the anime VOTOMS.) A couple decades ago one of the gaming stores in Edmonton got together with a store in Calgary (these are Alberta's two big cities, they're about 3 hours apart) and a store in Red Deer (which is a small city almost exactly in the middle) and had a big, multi-table, multi-day campaign, North versus South. All the individual battles were plotted on a hex map, so you knew how far apart they were... which meant I could lob indirect artillery fire at other games and *play* the off-board artillery. There were also rules for moving on the campaign map. Alas, I ended up not able to attend, but the organisers thought it was a great idea. Not nearly as much sill-fun and Kirioth's story, but it made me think of it. Also: I also have trouble visualising, although I do have a "mind's ear" - I can remember and imagine what things sound like, I just struggle to *see* them. And yet somehow I've also ended up heavy into role-playing and GMing. I wonder if there's a connexion?

This is genuinely the first time I have ever heard someone talk about Aphantasia, I do the exact same method of using Dawn of War 2 for my colour schemes, I remember having the same conversation to my friends about it who were gobsmacked that I couldn't picture stuff in my head. For me at least it's caused like, issues with my painting because I'll like have an idea of something, but then when it doesn't come out the way I'd like, it's hard to describe to people why I'm not happy with the results.

This hit really hard. I played some of 3rd edition in HS. I ended up getting into wow, and got stuck playing it. Now that I am in the 30s I've been more drawn to playing 40k over anything else, and it's probably cause it involves more in person interactions, and I never really got to play much.

Avengorii is awesome. I run Lauka Vai (converted from Lauka Vai + some Kruel boy thing with four legs), Vengorian Lord, 2x Terrorghiest, Zombie Dragon and a Giant in 2k. The giant has got spirit hosts on him, so it fits the 'dying sorta theme' and colour wise is horribly terrifying inspired by the Binding of Isaac game characters., so it's mainly painted in really dull pinks. As for NMM it's always a challenge. If the model is smaller, I've found tricks of how you can manipulate it easier. I did NMM Galadhrim by spraying zandri dust, 1-2 agrax earthshades dependiong how it looked and little druchi violet in some areas to give little different tone variations. Drybrushing balor brown, drybrushing zameri desert, these two being very faintly drybrushing ubshanti bone and pallid wych chalk helps create the natural look. I did a whole warband of 12-15 warriors start to finish in 3 hours. Spent so much money on a dark eldar x bioshock themed diorama for armies on parade...featuring wracks, scourges(little songbirds) harlequin mask's around + skitarii weapons, orlock gang to make a 'player', little sisters made from lotr stuff, stormfiend skaven to convert into big daddy's with help of greenstuff + talos bits, even got some scenery to do it all. I've built 9 wracks and 4 scourges...

I'm sitting here painting ARC troopers for Legion with this as background noise and you talk about making videos as background noise while painting republic commandos for Legion >> I've been SEEN apparently

Real ironic that one of the most creative hobbyists out there cant visualise stuff in his head. My sister has it too, got a running joke how imagination is a checklist for her. Dog? 4 legs, tail, a head. Check, check - oh wait thats a horse.

Imagination being a checklist is a really apt way of describing it! The workaround I have is to dump a bunch of parts that MIGHT work next to the kit that's forming the core of the kitbash and then hold stuff in place while muttering to myself like a lunatic.

Interesting Kurioth has no internal dialogue. It’s rare but suprisingly common at the same time.

Something I thought about was taking the most time to kitbash and paint the model you want your opponent to fight. Then you paint your biggest threats with more basic paint jobs. That way you can give yourself an edge before you even play the game 😂

Just watched that Hellboy daemon scene. Must have blocked it out, dont remember it at all. But its awsome. I think i might need to purged by the Inquisition now. Be for the best.

Paint tiny lads on the sprue for less stress - spray-wash-drybrush little bit of detail.

that biblically accurate angel kitbash at 54:52 is great. I will add though that not all angels look like the mass of eyes and wings, just some do, angels have different types and some do look like pretty men or women with wings and some look eldritch as fuck.

I cannot remember how I bumped into Kirioth on KZread. He just appeared. The algorithm got me in 2020/2021 or something. Haven't really seen any of his conversions either. Great stuff! Love them. Was thinking of picking up some of the saint decent stuff for turnip28. Anyone recommend somewhere online where you can beg/ask/shout in the void for bits? I'm looking for a load of Sicarian heads and the empty Greatsword helmets (that came 2 per box).

Tim Tam's are a fine biscuit, particularly since you can get them in Canada - not sure why they don't make it to the old country . . .

Two camera suggestions: 1) The Peachy close up shots are too cold 2) Autofocus adjustments on the wide shot are super distracting Loving the show!
